He is 3 dropped passes away from the best.

His confidence has always been his best/worst quality. He is extremely humble off the field and extremely confident on the field. Always has been. In college he would throw up a 5 INT game because he would make passes nobody should because he felt he could squeeze it through the smallest of holes. When he was on that would be 5 TDs.
He does have the tools to be the best. And like SG said, Eli said the same thing and everyone laughed. He can be top 5. Just need everything to come together.

They played the audio on ESPN Radio on Monday night.
I understand why it's a story, but it's only a big deal if you don't listen to the soundbite.
He basically said the same thing I say at work, "I am the best person for this job, if not someone else would be sitting here instead of me."

I poked fun initially, but this is probably the most true statement in the entire thread. Baltimore's receivers hold onto the ball, Joe is a Superbowl QB.
I agree with a lot of you, gotta like the attitude. However, he should have done himself a favor and not given anyone any fodder to chew on all summer. This quote will probably hang over his head for awhile.
I like Joe. Prior to the Skins getting RG3 or Luck, I would have liked to have had him on our team, but the Skins fan base is just as fickle.

I think Joe made these remarks knowing that to be the case. It's not like Joe doesn't want to win every single game, or say absurd things and then be right about it. This guy has a fierce competitive streak in him, and he was chided for 3 years for not showing "enough fire". They certainly can't fault him for raising a ruckus over this now.

Those three dropped passes means he is likely a back-to-back SB QB. You forget the Houshmandzadeh and Boldin drops in the Pittsburgh loss in 2010 playoffs. Yeah we would have had to beat the Jets in Baltimore, but I think that would have happened.
And then of course, there is the 1 dropped pass in the NE game that cost us another SB berth.
So for Joe to say he thinks he is the best, at least he has some actual proof for why he is -- independent of what his teammates have done in the playoffs the last 2 years.

Even though I agree that joe is a good QB, judging QBs by wins and losses is almost as stupid as judging pitchers by wins and losses.

I disagree that Joe should think this, maybe he should say this, but if he thinks it then the Ravens are in trouble. The best never believe they are the best and always work harder to become the best. Complacency is dangerous. Not that Joe is necessarily complacent.

Is it deja vu or did he say the same thing last offseason?

It does...and it says Joe is a good, potentially very good QB. If one goes by wins alone, then one may be tempted to call him "the best." That would be foolish, especially considering how important the defense is to the Ravens (as opposed to a team like the Saints).

I like the passion. Eli Manning came out last year and said that he belongs among the elite, and went on to have a fantastic season and was right up there with the elite QB's last season. Now, I don't think Flacco believes he is the best QB in football (Nobody could be that delusional, right?). But I think this is good for him and I expect his on the field play to reflect his attitude and he'll have a great season.
