    Baysox opening night.

So as I was out running errands I realized tonight is the home opener for the Baysox, and decided spur of the moment that the wife and I are going to go catch half the game and get a good look at Machado, Schoop and Bundy the elder.

Also heard Mike Morse and Rick Ankiel are playing as a tune up game for Harrisburg, so it should be interesting.

If anyone is out there maybe I'll see you there. I'll be the guy taking notes with the CAPS hat on while his wife enjoys a baseball game with $2 beers from 5-7pm.

I don't believe Bundy is pitching tonight. He pitches tomorrow.

Looks like Machado is starting off well with a HR in his first at bat.

Yeah I saw bascom starting when I got there and was a little bummed. Manny is LEGIT though. Talk more when I get home.

I don't know man, he made an out his third at bat. It might be time to cut bait.

Haha, you know that old cliche' that the ball just SOUNDS different coming from a real prospect? That was so true tonight. He is a MONSTER. First AB I was just watching his set up and mechanics thinking, oh yeah, that's pretty clean and nice, not too much movement...and then FB mid-high that everyone else was taking all night just CRUSHED to LCF. Absolute LASER and made a THUD when it hit the wall behind the fence.

The 2nd ball he lined to CF he absolutely crushed too, made me jump a bit he hit it so solid. The pitcher for HBG wasn't very good, he was a thrower with two pitches and couldn't locate either.

The swing is so smooth. He's a TOUCH slower than I thought he would be, got caught a couple steps off 2B and just couldn't get back, but not his fault on a GB to the pitcher. Ranged really well to his right into the hole, got to a soft liner in short LF with plenty of time to spare. Definitely a quicker step to his right than his left though. Didn't get a chance to see his arm strength unfortunately, but the future looks bright all of a sudden.

I'm going to reserve judgement on Schoop for now. I think I caught him on a bad night. Didn't see the double, but didn't like a few things early on. Might have just been jitters, small sample size and all.

At least he didn't look as bad as Mike Morse for the Nats. He has a TERRIBLE eye for anything low and Bascom made him look stupid twice with a soft curve and a soft change.

Also, the numbers were misleading for Bascom for those thinking he might be a viable SP. His control was pretty bad, and then he was throwing meatballs to get something over the plate, he got lucky about 8 times that I counted. That's not to say I don't like him, I still think he's a very viable ML RP, but as a SP if he were facing better competition it'd have been ugly. Tony is right, he absolutely knows how to pitch, but that 87-89FB and slow curve just aren't going to get it done as a SP when you are wild high and low.

Tough crowd. Six shutout innings in his first start of the season, against a lineup with two major leaguers, and we're blasting him. Given this was his 43rd start at AA and he can't break into AAA, as Steve Johnson has, you're probably right and I doubt he goes anywhere. But, let's give him credit for pitching a pretty gutsy game tonight.

Yeah, if I just saw the stats or read SteveM's tweets it'd look much better than I said, but being there I was just like ewwww. Ankiel and Morse were AWFUL tonight, Ankiel can't hit anything offspeed, and Morse swings for the fences every AB and can't judge anything low (I'm guessing it's cause he's HUGE, he looked like he belonged on the front of a syrup bottle, like a LUMBERJACK). It was a bad pitcher for them to face, and even Rizzo (he was there) said at one point they looked pretty terrible tonight.

I'm glad he held them off balance and did well here tonight, but as far for future stuff I'm pretty sure it'll be in the pen, right next to Johnson

I have to give Johnson some credit. He has pretty consistently been among his league's K leaders, even without dominant stuff. Think he could be a pretty good bullpen arm in the majors. Gotta be better than Travis Driskill!!
