    An Observation

It seems that DD has brought over the emphasis on OBP and perhaps a new organizational approach to patience at the plate, something the Os have not done in several years. Looking at the box score from today, there were three hitters who apparently did not get the memo. I know this is only one game and things can change, but the one hitter who bothers me in that regard is Wieters. He saw six pitches today...six. Did that bother anyone else? By the way, though Arrieta was dealing, only one Twins starter saw less than 13. Three Os starters saw less than 10: Wieters, Reynolds, and Andino. I hope Wieters shows more patience at the plate as the season progresses. The Os need him to be a solid middle of the order hitter, potentially #3, and he is not going to be that guy by only seeing six pitches in three ABs. We have talked about his slow bat, but this could be a bigger problem.

ps. The Os were also 0-7 with RISP. That is also pathetic. Wieters was 0-2.

If only three hitters didn't get the memo, that's the best they've done in awhile.

Points noted, but let's get a little bigger n before we get too bent out of shape. There were some bad ABs out there today, but there's a long way to go.

No doubt it is early, and I am not bent out of shape. My only point is that I hope this is not a trend for Wieters for the rest of the season.

He looked real good in spring training. Probably just game one jitters.

He averages 3.94 P/PA for his career, comfortably over league avg of 3.82. So, I wouldn't get worked up over 1 game.

Keep in mind the opponent was a guy who walks almost no one and is almost always around the plate. I don't mind being aggressive against guys like that to keep from getting behind in the count all the time.

But he did pick up where he left off last year and made a very bad throw after double-pumping--Davis's dive saved it.

Have to say that the OP's comparing the Twins total pitches seen to the Orioles is a little unfair (more a yardstick than an indicator of this year's trends.) The Twins are known to have preached OBP and spraying the ball for years. See JJ Hardy's career HR totals for proof...

Even if you think Duquette has done squat yet in this organization, you have to admit he has consistently improved our OBP.

This is an outrage...I say we bench him, he had a game to prove himself this year....

Something to watch, but it could just be the pitcher was throwing some good looking meat in this particular game.

I observed that it was just one game.
