Last season we started 4-0 with absolutely outstanding dominating performances from the starting pitchers. 3-0 this time around with the same type of dominating performances. Hopefully we can keep it up, but the comparisons are pretty interesting.
4/1- 4-1 O's Guthrie 8IP 0ER
4/2- 3-1 O's Tillman 6IP 0ER
4/3- 5-1 O's Britton 6IP 1ER
4/4- 5-1 O's Arrieta 6IP 1ER
4/6- 4-2 O's Arrieta 7IP 0ER
4/7- 8-2 O's Hunter 7IP 0ER
4/8- 3-1 O's Hammel 8IP 1ER

I had thought about that - there's a big difference between 6IP and 7, I recall Tillman gave up no hit's in his 6 innings, but he was wild and threw a ton of pitches and I wasn't very impressed.
Granted the Rays are much much better than the Twins.

Same story...O's lead the first few games while Yank's and Sox remain winless, as soon as we get roughed up things will probably change. I can't wait till we play Detroit

As similar as these stats are its not a formula for success/loss. Just because it happened last year does not mean it will happen this year. Not saying I believe we're going to be hunting for the wildcard come September but its a different year and a different team.
Plus we have the cartoon bird back

It is a bit uncanny. Adds some levity.

Last year's good start is definitely in the back of my mind. People at work (I live in Seattle, so it was surprising) started commenting about how the O's looked for real last year, and I agreed. I was stupidly optimistic.
I'm enjoying these wins and it's great feeling like a winning team for a few moments. I'm holding out a tiny bit of hope for a miracle season, but I'm prepared for and fully expecting the usual death spiral.

The difference between a team that wins 70 and a team that wins 90 can be fairly marginal on the surface. There's such a thing as chemistry: a group of guys all starting to peak at the same time. I mean, just rationally, at some point we have the chance of seeing Markakis, Wieters, Jones, Reynolds, Hardy, Arrieta, Matusz and the other core youngsters feeling their oats all at once. That's a mighty bit of potential in that group. These guys are not cursed, or doomed. They're young, talented dudes coming into their prime years - all at once, more or less. Crazier things have happened.
Not saying I b'lieve - not yet. But I am excited to watch the next game. And that's something I didn't feel for the vast majority of the last, well, 14 seasons or so.
