The Yankees come in for three games

    Nova vs. Matusz
    Garcia vs. Chen
And I think, Sabathia vs. Arrieta

Well, I think pretty much everyone acknowledges this is an important early season test. Sweeping the Twins was nice but it's our record versus the AL East that needs the most improvement from 2011. Who do you got? Poll incoming.

Picking anything other than 3-0 would be picking the Yankees to win. That goes against my beliefs as a human being.

    Dear Jake:
OO Regardless of what happens in the first 2 games, we're counting on you to bulldoze those Yanks in the series finale.
    PLEASE do it, Jake.

Jake's first major league win came against the Yankees.

Just so he is not throwing a no hitter into the eighth. Right

I went 2-1 which seems to be a realistic goal. I can see any of the three Matusz, Chen and Jake able to win but Matusz and Jake seem most likely. No offense to Chen though.

Love what Jake did, but the Orioles beating CC Sabathia is a very uncommon occurrence. While I believe Matusz makes a massive turnaround this year, I wouldn't be surprised if his first start is a rocky one. Chen, however, is an unknown figure, which I believe works to our advantage.

Went with Chen getting the only victory.

I'm bullish on Matusz, but have a feeling he gets hit hard tonight. Hope I'm wrong, obviously. And I just don't see them beating Sabathia.

I don't think Chen will be great, but I think we get to Garcia this time.

It would be great to win this series and set a tone for the season. Last year we started the season 0-6 against the Yankees and didn't beat them until late July. We never took a series from them all year.

Fair point. However, these aren't the same O's, and IMO they aren't quite the same Yankees.

We typically seem to be a hot team to start the season while the Yankees don't (relying on memory). So perhaps we're catching them at a good time. If we can get up on them early, do you think it causes them to press at all after what occurred in Tampa, or are they all too professional for that?

I think the Yanks will be pissed and ready to take their anger out on the O's, as per usual, but I still voted 3-0

Well, the '98 Yankees started 0-3, and finished 114-48. They were 14-16 after 30 games in 2009 when they won the World Series. They were 21-29 in 2007 and won the division with 94 wins. It seems to me the Yankees have had plenty of slow starts over the years, and yet, they've been in the playoffs 16 of the last 17 seasons. Somehow, I don't think they'll panic over what happens in the first week of the season -- though I'm sure the NY media would go nuts if the Yanks lost another 3 games.

I think these games mean a lot more to the Orioles' chances of putting together a decent season than they do to the Yankees' playoff chances.
