The more I've listened to the new album, the more I appreciate it. It's not great, but it is a retro VH with a lot of noise. If you like the old heavier side of the Roth years, it's a nice trip. Turn up your stereo to 11 and you'll know what I mean.
Roth v. Hagar is a no-brainer. I really like some of the Hagar stuff, especially since it mirrors my high school and college years. But Roth was just the consummate showman, the only person worthy of this band's swagger.

Just listening for the first time in another window... I like! The song, the "Eddie chords", it's a good song. And then the lead... is EDDIE!

I'm VERY disappointed in Wolfgang! And I mean no offense whatsoever to the young man.
And I just reached the end of the song. Good ending! Pretty hard, jamming song, and then just suddenly slow and fade.
Anyways... Wolfgang is a VERY good bassist. No offense meant. But Michael still out is sad to me. They covered his falsetto with Dave overdubbed. Got the same "sound" but at a loss, IMO.
Overall, I really like it a lot! Good hard driving song, and Dave AND Eddie always deliver!

For what it is, it's very good. Although I thought "Tattoo" was an unfortunate choice for lead single, the rest of the album definitely gives a "Women And Children First / Fair Warning" vibe. Eddie sounds in fine form, and Dave sounds like an older Dave trying to sound like a younger Dave, but he's still Dave. As far as buying it...I'd just stream it or have a friend dub you a copy, they don't need the money. But if you know any bootleg/ trader types, seek out "Van Halen Zero". It's a pre-first l.p. demo with original versions of several of the new l.p. songs. It's an interesting listen.

The only thing I pay retail for anymore is Brian Jonestown Massacre. Anton has expensive habits, so I try to help. And I do buy merch at indie shows, but I will never give a major label my money anymore. They ripped me off for the better part of three decades, now it's my turn.
