I think The Sex Pistols handled it the right way. They were inducted and refused on grounds that it represented everything they were railing against in the first place. As for Cream, they belong for cultural impact, historical impact, and musical chops alone. They were the first power trio, and the first supergroup, of any real renown, and "Badge" is one of the greatest songs of all time. Personally the only thing about them that occasionally annoyed me was Jack Bruce's voice. While a great bassist, he always sounded a little too lounge-singerish for a blues based rock combo. The only reason I even care is I just wanna see the classic line-up lace 'em up one more time. I imagine we'll be having this same debate when Nirvana's number comes up.
I have a special soft spot in my heart for Bruce because of his work with Trower and B.L.T. One of my favorites.

On the longevity point... Look at Disraeli Gears. It's like Pearl Jam 10. Just so many incredible songs! Same with that gray album I can't remember the name of. Just a full-on onslaught of jams! Just one right after another. Like Grand Funk's Red album.
I think Clapton is actually in three times (Cream, Yardbirds, Solo). Unless I'm missing something.

He might just end up going in a fourth time when it is all said and done.

Axl's reply could have been a lot shorter. It could have read, "If Slash is there, I'm not coming!"

Whatever Axl. I was fan of the original lineup and that band you have now is no Guns N Roses. If he cared about his "fans" he would have just named the new band after himself and not diminish the once proud name of Guns N Roses. Appetite will always remain one of the best albums ever made and for that, I'll sorta be a fan, but the new stuff has more crap on it than good and it just doesn't sound like GNR. Slash and Axl make GNR. Without either the band should not be called GNR.

Avenged Sevenfold is the updated GNR for this generation. I'd rather go listen to them any day over the crap supposedly coming from GNR.

I'm a big Izzy guy. Slash is a great soloist, but Izzy was the soul of the classic line-up. And his solo stuff is damn good. Just wish he'd tour.

I mean...neither of them really deserve to be in the HOF, but I could see them letting Derek and the Dominoes in just because of "Layla".

Yeah but I would assume they just kind of lump Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos in with Clapton "Solo". Derek and the Dominos more so...probably.

    Nope and nope.

    John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

I will respectfully disagree. While each of those bands only put out 1 studio album (Dominoes had a live album to go along with Layla), both of those albums contain some of the best music of that era and I would vote for them just based on those albums alone...just my .02 cents though.

This! Izzy was the song master of the group. Take him out, and those first three albums fall to pieces. Slash can play a great solo, but he doesn't craft a song the way Izzy can, and Axl needs someone else to guide him along.
