No one can say anything with certaintly, but I would say based on his track record with command/mechanics that it will more likely be a continuing issue going forward than it won't be going forward. I mean Jake Arrieta has always had issues with command, but I feel far more comfortable with his ability to overcome it because of his stuff and his mechanics than I do with Tillman. Other than that, I'm not really sure what we're arguing here. If it's that you're in lawyer mode this morning, I think I'll take a pass today.

We're in agreement. Heck, I think RZ and I are in basic agreement. And, you know, if you're second person to come in w/ accusations of being lawyer-ly (after me), you should probably let it pass.

Why do you think Jake is more likely to overcome it than Tillman. Jake seems to be commanding better, but a few things about Tillman to keep in mind. He's shown better than average velocity since coming back up last year. The back and forth certainly didn't help him. He's the youngest we have at either the AAA our ML level. Younger than Britton or Matusz, there's still time for him to mature and I would argue he's never had the people around him (i.e. Petersen) before that can focus him on taking full advantage of his potential.

However, consistency has always been his problem. He worked with Brady in the off season to give him more strength in order to be able to repeat his delivery so he really needs to put something together this year. They didnt give him very many innings towards the end of spring training so I think after three to four starts we should see what we're getting.

The velocity is a great thing to see, however, he needs to throw less pitches. 100 pitches in 5.2 inning in AAA translates to much worse in the MLB.

He would still be a liability in the rotation and tax the bullpen.

To reiterate: one game doesn't translate into anything in the MLB.

If you were asking me it's because I think he has better stuff and a more compact/repeatable delivery (better mechanics). I thought I did refernce that in my post.

Right. This is where Peterson needs to step in and show some value-add. Tillman has always been very young for his league. He has done a lot of work this offseason to come in stronger and better prepared. He is showing signs of that. He needs someone to help him master his mechanics so that he can repeat his delivery and not give away so many pitches. That is Rick Peterson. I want Tillman under Peterson's influence right now sink or swim.

So he pitched well tonight, but definitely needs to get deeper into games if he's going to contribute for the Orioles. Not sure if anyone has info on his velocity but here's his line:

You're picking a single data point out of an otherwise very good start, which is itself only a single data point, without any idea why that data point exists (i.e., was he working on the cutter, which isn't a swing-and-miss pitch?), and selectively using that as proof about some identified future.

As I stated earlier, getting 16 out of 17 outs on either groundballs or strike outs is a very good start.

The problem with the start is 2 walks every 4-6 innings at AAA likely translate to nearly 1 BB per inning in the majors. And 1 hit per inning. In addition he wont K anywhere near that many. The result would be runners allover the base paths against MLB teams
