Unless the scouts and his rep are wrong, then he has more than a mediocre glove. I don't think we have seen him enough to know for sure.
That being said, I wouldn't expect much either but he does have the chance to be a big bat,so he should be given that chance on a lousy team.

I hated what I saw from Davis the first 6 games. I loved what I saw the last 3. What does that mean? The sample size is too snall to draw any conclusions about him.

Davis probably isn't the best young player we could have given a shot at 1b but he is definitely better than the mediocre to terrible vets we were signing for 1b the last few years.

I am not a Davis believer, but we need him to have consistent AB's for a couple of months. If he pans out, good for us. If he doesn't, first base still remains a glaring hole in this organization and will need to be addressed.

Note to Frobby, see the second part of your post.
As an Orioles fan I hope you end up right in this one, but I take all theses early season numbers with a grain of salt. It's good that he had a nice series in Toronto, but I'll be more convinced when we're in July and he's got that SLG pct.

I guess that's the problem with defensive stats or reputation, nobody really knows. He's looked okay so far. His career TZ rating is below average for his ML career though. My point is that teams like Boston, Tampa, New York, LA, etc. all have first baseman who combine hitting for average, power and patience with recognized gold-glove level defense. And Detroit has one who is off the charts on the first three. If Chris Davis pans out, maybe we have a guy with good power. It just isn't enough at that position.
Yes, we all know you are the board's resident know-it-all.

I wasn't too high on Davis coming into the season. If he ends up being a decent player then great but he is a gamble. I'm glad to see he had a good series but baseball is a game of consistency over an entire season. I want to see him do that before I change my mind about him.

When he is going good, he seems to have a good eye at the plate. When he is going bad...he makes up his mind too quickly IMO. He misses his pitch too often.

I wonder how many of the Chris Davis skeptics wanted to sign Adam Dunn for big money?

Between tonight's game and the Toronto series, I have a hard time considering Chris Davis a great fielding first baseman.

Me thinks Davis needs a new glove.
