The O's never should have picked up the team option after last year.

I can understand that position if Gregg had been solid in B-more for the vast majority of his tenure. But that's simply not the case... and we definitely have a better arm in the wings that could replace him.

I agree that we can't just dump him right now. I think the O's are trying to evaluate him in other roles like coming in for situational relief or as a 7th/8th inning setup guy.

One apperance he pitched well for 5 of 6 outs.

The O's will have decisions to make once Wada has to be activated from the DL. Gregg, O'day, and Patton are probably in trouble when it comes to that time.

But I don't see them releasing Gregg until later this season.

Gregg's a sunk cost- If we have people who can perform better than him, which we certainly do, he shouldn't be with the team.

If a builder buys some wood and it rots, he doesn't use it in a desperate attempt to recover some of the cost, he throws it away.

Im not sure what they plan to do with Wada, but I would suspect he may become the long man if Britton's rehab goes according to plan and he rejoins the rotation. In that case, Gregg is the logical choice to get cut.

What's the use of this? It's not like he's magically going to get better depending upon the inning he's brought into.

If we did it to Gibbons, we can do it to him. Just cut him.

In fact, he seems to hate not closing so much that he pitches even worse in earlier innings. At least that's what his excuse was last year and in spring training.

I only see a few scenarios with Gregg:

Either they release him immediately, they release him when Wada is ready to come back, or they truly roll with him as garbage man for as long as possible and Wada forces the O's to option someone else.

Well if he doesn't get any one out as the garbage man he doesn't really serve a purpose. I wouldn't want to put him a game again.

I guess I'm trying to figure out which way the O's lean. We all know which way we'd lean.

I agree, what is the point... everyone agrees but since there has been no word of it and the amount of money we are paying him the O's are keeping him on the roster at this point and will continue to use him when Buck wants him in. He may see less time now, who really knows..

Gibbons was also injury prone and linked to the Mitchell Report.

    Gregg just sucks.

    Just to quote it here...

But in a bullpen in flux – one that has no true long reliever and no situational lefty – Gregg’s spot in the pen might be more valuable than any dollar figure.

what if the Orioles release Gregg and some other team picks him and he finishes 50 games for them. Would the Orioles be responsible for his option in 2013? I know that sounds remote that it would happen. But would the team want to take that chance?

I think we're only responsible for this year's salary. The team that picks him up would responsible for the option. Not 100% sure tho...

Can anyone confirm Kevin Gregg has left Canada? I'm holding out hope that he was mysteriously forgotten there and that no one speaks of him again.

If he is still with the team... perhaps we could figure out a way to get him to challenge Hawk Harrelson in a fight to the death? Win-win scenario, am I right? I'm kidding of course. Or am I?!

Well lets see. Either we get rid of our worst, least liked reliever, or we get rid of the worst, least liked announcer. Win, Win.

Roch flew out to Chicago this morning, and posted his first entry from there. Broad updates on the team, no mention of losing Gregg in Canadia...
