Ha. This is right off of what I said on the thread about the minor league recaps yesterday. Like I said, a few more starts like this and maybe people will start thinking of him being involved as part of the big league team's future. He continues to overachieve and play better than many of the experts on here and elsewhere think he can while other guys continue to underachieve and yet we keep giving them chance after chance (Tillman).

Haha its all coming together. Sorry I responded to this threat before I saw what you posted on the other. Anyways, I'm excited to see how Stevie does the next handful of starts.

It's good to see Johnson off to a good start in AAA this year. If he keeps missing AAA bats and keeps the ball in the yard he's just a phone call away. I very well might be like his father where his stuff doesn't overwhelm the scouts, but he's figured out how to pitch well enough to compete. I haven't heard any reports on him yet this year so I can't what's he doing, but anyone who roots for the underdog will root for a kid like this.

P.S. Johnson's ERA actually went down from 2.45 to 2.30 after this game. Once again, the Tides' defense reared its ugly head and made an error, leading to 2 unearned runs for Johnson.

Too many pitches thrown by Steve. Still, seems as though he was effective for the most part.

Bring him up to replace Gregg. Would solidify BP and give another multi-inning guy so Strop doesn't need to go 2IP.

Yes, especially considering that when he came into the game, he was entering upon far from ideal conditions: the bases were loaded with 2 outs in the 3rd inning.

Also, Johnson likely would have thrown at least a few less pitches than he did had the error not been made. Those damned errors hurt a pitcher exponentially.

Steve Johnson? He's just now proving he can get AAA hitters out. Besides, he's not on the 40 man roster so a corresponding move would have to be made. If you really want a long man that bad, bring up Berken who's on the 40 man. Some have mentioned Eveland but he's starter insurance and if he's brought up can't be sent down again without risk. Bergesen has stunk so he's not really an option either. Pomeranz has been stretched out to 3 innings at AA and has been dominant. He's also not on the 40 man. He might be an option down the road. Right now, if a long man is needed it looks like Berken to me.

At the same time, I think we have enough depth in the bullpen, and would have even more with a suitable replacement for Gregg, that we can afford to let some of these guys go 2IP and lose them for a day or two. Remember, tomorrow is an off day and Ayala, Lindstrom, Johnson, Patton, will all have had plenty enough rest going into Tuesday's game. I don't think anyone has been overworked to this point.

Another option is to bring up Phillips and move Patton into the long relief role that he's fairly well suited for. This also gives Buck two lefties in his pen.
