Thumbs up You're the GM and the Giants call about JJ?

Who do you ask for? What could you reasonably expect in return?

I wouldn't start the conversation without Gary Brown. He would be insurance in case Adam Jones walks.

Sickels thinks that after Brown (Sickels: B+, BA: #38), Joe Panik (SS-2B, excellent contact and BB rate, limited power - Sickels: B), and Tommy Joseph (C, lots of Ks and HRs - Sickels: B-), the Giants system is a whole lotta filler. If you believe in Schoop at 2B and expect us to resign Wieters, Brown is the only guy who really fits with the Bundy-Machado plan. If you want Schoop to play third, then an infield of Schoop-Machado-Panik would be pretty nice.

I doubt the Giants would be willing to give up Brown. Panik plus Joseph, maybe, but I doubt that too.

I'd start with their best pitching prospect and ask for Belt as well. Now we're talking.

No chance you are getting Brown at this point. Unlikely you would be able to get Panik or Joseph, unless it was a straight one-for-one. Maybe the offers would improve in July if the Giants bullpen has blown a bunch of games but they are still in the hunt. I don't expect them to make a move for at least six weeks while they burn through a couple of their own options.

We don't match up well with them and they have some solid arms that could close. I like Johnson, but I am not giving up a good prospect for a closer.

    Gary Brown=overrated

His numbers were inflated in the California League last year. Let's see what he does in AA this year. Even with the inflated numbers, his walk rate was not great and he got caught 19 times stealing. I think his stock will drop quite a bit this year.

This. I'd rather take Belt and pitching prospect.

I'd just have Kevin Gregg grow a beard.

In fantasyland, I ask for their top 10 prospects and $20 million in cash.

In reality, I keep JJ. He's our closer and I am not dumping our maturing GOOD players for another team's prospects UNLESS it's a player that is either (1) aging like Koji or (2) really mediocre disguised as good (I wish I could say like Kevin Gregg but I guess a mark Reynolds is a better example).

I like the Belt Idea .... Here are the top pitching propects. What one would you want?
    5) Heath Hembree, RHP, Grade B-: Love the fastball, but slider, changeup ,and command are all works in progress. Potential to be a closer.

    7) Eric Surkamp, LHP, Grade B-: Doesn't throw hard but has the statistical components of a power pitcher, excellent K/IPs and few hits, in the minors anyway. Was more tentative in the majors once the scouting reports got around and was hit hard. I think he can adjust and become a solid number four starter.
    8) Kyle Crick, RHP, Grade C+: Borderline B-: High-ceiling arm, potential for four major league pitches with a workhorse body, still refining command. Could be the top prospect in the system in two years but isn't there yet.
    9) Josh Osich, LHP, Grade C+: Borderline B-: Power southpaw, needs to prove his arm is healthy before ranking higher. Does he start or relieve?
    11) Clayton Blackburn, RHP, Grade C+: Major sleeper prospect from 2011 draft, showed excellent command in Arizona Rookie League (30/3 K/BB in 33 innings, just 16 hits), above-average velocity. Overshadowed in Oklahoma high school ranks by Archie Bradley and Dylan Bundy, but he's got a lot of talent himself.
Assuming Blackburn cant be traded until this summer ...so I'd guess I'd go with Crick.

Brandon Belt would be nice, however are we really going to get much from the Giants when they want a rental closer for the year?

Nothing yet. Hold onto Johnson until the deadline at the earliest. No need to be trigger happy and flip him 10 games into the season. Especially when we're actually winning.
