    Point being...it's not worth increasing one's risk of injury to avoid one out in one game during a 162 game season.

    Are you kidding? They are taught to run through the base. There is zero time for the 1b coach to yell slide. And, even if they tried it, it would probably lead to injuries.

    The only way you can slide is if the throw gets there well ahead of time, if it is bang-bang you don't have time anyway.
