Thread: Bill Hall to Norfolk

I don't think Bill Hall is an answer for anything....except to fill Bell's slot at Norfolk. But I even question that since he hasn't played regularly at 3B since 2008 with Milwaukee....113 games with 17 errors. And I doubt the O's bring up anyone, except maybe a pitcher, since no one at Norfolk is hitting or fielding particularly well at the moment. I'd rather see them bring up Brandon Waring, who is knocking the snot out of the ball at Bowie. I don't know about his glove though.

I hope he gets some time in the majors. I'm preparing a joke about a "hall pass" if he draws a walk. It's still in R&D though.

You'll have to get your nose out of the Fielding Bible on this one Gordo. Trust me (I know you won't), he's a bad fielder. There's a reason a guy who hit's 30 homers is moved from SS to the outfield and it's not because he's pretty good at SS. I've seen him play 3B and 2B over the last year and he's awful at both.

What are you basing yiour assessment on? Have you watched him play 3B, 2B, SS, and COF, a lot? How mant games? You happen to see a guy make a couple of errors and you assume he's poor? If you happened to watch the first 11 games COL played this season, where Tulo made 6 E's, you'd probably think he was poor as well. Hall was a a good SS, but not as good as Hardy. When UZR. the FB and Rtot agree in general that a guy is above average at a position, you can pretty much count on it being so. I am certain Hall is a better fielder at 3B, than either Rerynolds or Betemit.

I'm pretty sure Bill Hall can no longer hit. But a AAA move is a AAA move. Not much to see here.

I have always liked Bill Hall. In 2010 I think the Red Sox used him (didn't hurt he was on a good team) and he had 18 HR's as a P/T player and played all over. IF 3b is still an issue and he he hitting at AAA, bring him up and release Johnson.
Note:To the best of my memory Hall was moved from SS to OF for J J Hardy and from the OF to 3b for Braun.

I think I have to go with El Gordo on this one. As I recall, Hall lost his starting role as a third baseman because he stopped hitting. His FP% is 27 points above Reynolds and 17 points above Betemit. So, he makes less errors and it's not like Hall isn't athletic, and the advanced numbers paint him around average+ (albeit primarily from 3 or more years ago). Where Hall is at this moment of time as a third baseman, I have no idea as he's played sporadically as a utility guy. The mlb.com article does state the Orioles value his defensive ability at third base. As far as the ML team goes I have no idea why we might value Hall over Antonelli/Falherty etc., but I suppose he provides depth and possible contingency use.
