It looked to me like he had to reach down for it, but that could have been because he was late.

What? The Jays would rather have their guys run into outs than be tentative on the bases? I thought they were supposed to be a sabermetric team.

Poor decision on AJ's part, regardless of where the pitch wound up.
I dunno about that - AJ's a pretty good fastball hitter. He should have at least a 1 in 4 shot at putting that ball in the stands. Against a Major-League pitcher, it's unlikely you'll see another meatball like that over the course of an at-bat, so you might as well go up hacking.

Maddening defense. At least it didnt cost anything beside a couple extra pitches. Lets go put up a crooked number

Why wouldn't Hardy be covering there, easier play for him?

Agree with the pitch sequence comment. Just like anything in sports, you can't assume the next events after a given play because the situation has changed. However, I just can't be upset with Jones for going after a 2-0 pitch that was out over the plate. Didn't work out, but I'm not worried about the result.

I was taught to throw to the bag. They know where they're going to end up.

They didn't need to put the ball in the stands.

Thought same thing unless he was way over in the hole.

Normally that works. But in this case, if he'd thrown to the bag immediately, the ball would've gone into CF.

Good patience by Betemit to go from 0-2 to a walk.

His job is to drive in runs, he worked the count 2-0 and got a pitch to hit and missed it, I don't have a problem myself. He wasn't like he hacked at a breaking ball off the plate.
