Really bummed about Wada. The guy was fantastic in Japan last year. I thought he would be solid for us this year. We're going to need another guy unless Matusz figures it out (I'm dubious).

Too bad he is signed for next year too. Oh well...win some and you lose some, I suppose. I wonder if the O's would consider using Berken as a starter or if that ship has sailed and he just a long man in the rotation at Norfolk to keep his arm strong enough. At this point I'd much rather see that than have to watch Tillman start another game at the big league level.

Don't hear anybody wondering what they're going to do with all these pitchers anymore, huh.

Wada had this damage before we signed him. Is there any "dealing in bad faith" as far as his agent goes? Buck made mention of Wada deserving a chance to address this. Sounds like more of the story may yet be told.

This is why you never have enough starting pitching. We really could have aquired 2 more starters in the off season and still not have enough. You know between now and June one current starter will be totally ineffective, and another will go down with injury. DD should be working now to find another starter somewhere.

I doubt it was as bad when he signed as it is now. He most likely was near blowing it out and this just took him over the top.
Get the surgery soon. Maybe he can be used next year in a pennant chase.
And if he is any good Japanese players tend to feel an obligation to the team when they sign the contract. He will feel compelled to give us a year for decent money on the back end if he comes back from this.

Agree that Buck was pretty downbeat about it. TJ issue likely.
Here's where some of the ridiculed moves come into play. We've got some serviceable guys that can step in when Wada would have been needed: Berken, Piniero, Eveland, even Tillman or Bergesen. And the news on Britton is getting better.

I watched that presser and all Buck said was that we didn't see any of that damage when we signed him. If anything, Buck said he WASN'T injured when we signed him. That doesn't mean he wasn't, or wasn't close to blowing it out. However, there's no reason to jump to the conclusion that he was injured, and certainly no evidence to suggest that he was dealing in bad faith.
Spring training started over two months ago. Injuries to pitchers happen. Sucks, but bad faith? Really?
