Less Complacent Reynolds
Did you see him in the dugout after Wieters's home run on Tuesday? I laughed when I saw the sunflower-seed bomb.
I wanted to post this with the HUGE thread on Complacent Reynolds, but I couldn't find it. Sorry if this isn't a good spot, and feel free to merge (or delete).

Haha. I've noticed that Mark always has pretty energetic reactions to home runs. The cameras always seem to catch him smiling, cheering, jumping, or showing some other other assorted sign of merriment when they cut to the dugout after home runs.
If only he was on base for more of those home runs by his teammates...

Reynolds will be fine...He has April-itis. May wont get here soon enough for him. I know his bat will come around. I just think we've seen what his defense really is.

If you can't hit one yourself, at least celebrate your teammates hitting one. Thankfully there has been a lot of celebrating going on thus far this year.

Mark Reynolds
April
Careeer: 216/312/438 - 749 OPS, 20 doubles, 21 home runs, 137 strikeouts in 443 plate appearances
2012: 125/250/208 - 458 OPS, 4 doubles, 0 home runs, 22 strikeouts in 56 plate appearances
2011: 169/253/313 - 566, 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 25 strikeouts in 95 plate appearances
2010: 241/365/544 - 909, 3 doubles, 7 home runs, 28 strikeouts in 96 plate appearances
2009: 263/333/526 - 860, 3 doubles, 5 home runs, 24 strikeouts in 84 plate appearances
He's in a very bad funk right now. That said, he's had these before. September/October of 2010 in 75 plate appearances, he had 0 doubles, 0 home runs, and struck out 31 times.

As much as everyone wants to bash on Reynolds at third, and rightfully so, Davis absolutely stinks at first!
If you're set on those three players, then I go with Betemit at 3rd, Reynolds at first, and Davis DHing. Orsulak agrees with this thinking and talked about it on the pre-game last night.

Definitely below average. at .729 OPS to AL average .742 OPS for 1B, and a -.01 UZR; but better than, Lind, Sanchez, Lee, Alonso, Smoak, Pujols, and Ike Davis. I think we should platoon Betemit and Reynolds at 3B, stick with Davis at 1B for now, and keep rotating Betemit, Johnson, and Reynolds at DH. One of them is going to start to hit, most likely Reynolds.

Complacent(in any form) is not a term I would ever use in describing Reynolds. When he was traded to Baltimore he quickly became involved. To my knowledge he is not a complainer and willing to play anywhere he is asked. He certainly has some deficiencies but not trying to improve is not one of them, He lost weight, takes extra infield and hitting. He is what he is. I am not a strong believer that you can make a poor fielder improve a whole lot. Maybe improve positioning and foot movement, but you still have to catch and throw. I would prefer him at first..and he is not "pretty" there by any means, but he catches and scoops pretty well. I really hope he ends up with at least a season comparable to last years. So far it looks tenuous at best. But, I've been drinking orange kool aid for a half century and will continue to be a foolish optimist in Yankee country.

I hate when we expect athletes to be in a depression because they are not playing well. He isn't complacent. I have bad days at work and them I am able to laugh that evening or the next day, why shouldn't he.
