    Tillys smoke.

I was at the Tides game tonight. Meh outin for Tillman, looked good but had trouble finishing off batters. Most breaking balls were in the dirt, but around 75mph.

Now this is the stadium gun, but i wanted a reference...alex cobb sat at 89 on his fatball all night, nunez at 91. thats the best for a control that i have.

Tillman sat very consistantly (into the 6th) at 94. In one at bat on 3-1 to i think it was miranda with two men on, he hit 95.

The next pitch struck him out and read 99. It looked legit.

Just thought id share. Jai miller was hitting hard but right at people. Hoffman and Mahoney had good nights at the plate, Mahoney also with a nice pick on short hop liner. A lot of good at bats by everyone. Didnt realise kyle hudson went from the Rangers to Rays, he had a rough night fielding.

I wonder how he'd look in the bullpen. Can't imagine he'll be considered a starter anymore after this season if he continues like this.

I get the sense that the Orioles are less concerned about his results than they are about him trying to just get back on top of his stuff. He was mentioned as being near the top of the line for starters if the O's need one because he's been throwing major-league-quality pitches at Norfolk, even if he hasn't been doing it efficiently.

That said, I hate seeing these pitching lines. Though glad to see his velo back where it belongs (and apparently above).

Such a tough call being that hes still young. Right now he definetely looks more like a dominant reliever than solid starter, but its a tough decision.

I will say his line would look much better tonight if it werent for a squeaker 2-run 320ft homerun right at the right field foul pole by wil rhymes. However i guess if it were anyone other than Rhymes, it may not have been a squeaker. Defense also saves two runs on plays at the plate.

He was down in the zone pretty good, which i have never ever seen from him.

Also Rick Peterson was there. Is he the Tides pitchin coach or does he move all over?

He moves, I believe. Probably where he's needed. I think it's possible they've been working with him closely - if so, it wouldn't be surprising if they're being patient.

oh and that strikeout was Mangini not Miranda

Note 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in 5.1innings, but got hit. He really does feel like hed be impressive yet volatile in relief. Probably would sit at 96 and could ramp it up, wildly effective with a 75mph breaking pitch. Dont see why he couldnt figure out major league hitters in that role, and later be converted to starter if the command and confidence comes around

Not to discredit the OP, but any other sources saying he hit 99? Considering Tillman hasn't hit 95 hardly ever in the ML, OP hopefully you can understand my skepticism.

Edit, if he actually hit 99,

understood. just sharing what i saw from a casual game with the ex.

i have no idea how accurate the stadium gun was anyway, but assumed it was pretty close by the other guys numbers. also i think villarreal sat 89-91. dont know where hes usually at. either way the 94s came all night long and that 95 was right based on timing, which is why i lean toward the 99 being right. blew him away to end the inning with runners on, was pretty sexy; but yeah, no proof here.

My guess is that it was running hot. But I assume he's still getting into the mid-90s w/ some regularity. Good news, that, if I'm right.

This guy is destined for the bullpen, but he'll be a good one, so not a knock.

I agree, i think he'd be a dominant reliever and may very well wind up there. I can see why the organization wants him to be a starter, though, because he really does flash great stuff. Knowing how much he worked out with brady anderson in the offseason to add velocity and stamina, you'd think he'd be able to get further in games.

I wonder of he's on a pitch limit, or just fades after the customary 100 pitches or so. Tillman's never been very efficient, even when pitching well, and therefore hasnt been able to get deep in games. Could a pitcher like him, who the organization clearly wants to start, be "stretched out" to the point where he's used to throwing 120 pitches, say, rather than 100? Would that put too much stress on his arm? A number of other pitchers still throw 120 regularly. Could brady maybe help him with building his endurance and allowing him to bring the same velocity he's shown in relief over a longer outing?

Got to be the Brady workouts because the kid barely hit 91-92 last year.

I think he could be one of those guys you put in the bullpen and he just figures out how to pitch.

Let him keep working with Peterson before we throw him in the bullpen. Still extremely young.
