Orioles now 5-0 when they don't commit an error
(And therefore 5-7 when they do.) It has been noted by many, and quite accurately, that this team will go as far as its pitching takes it. But there is also something to be said for the fielders doing their part to limit baserunners and stave off big innings.
In their errorless games, the pitchers have allowed 2, 1, 3, 2, and 1 runs over a span of 46 innings--a tidy 1.76 ERA.
Nothing groundbreaking in this observation, but it's nice to see strong efforts on the mound held up by clean performances in the field.

Kind of make me wonder if this is not the O's best lineup:

Maybe we could do a platoon of Davis and Reynolds at first?

They won those five games by scoring 4, 3, 5, 3, and 2 runs respectively. Perhaps the defense helped the pitchers in those game, perhaps it didn't. However, you can make the case we won those games because of the pitching.
By contrast though, the Orioles have also won 5 games in which they did commit an error and scored 8, 7, 6, 10, and 3 runs. What does this tell us? They can win in spite of bad defense, when they score enough runs, and the pitching holds. The errors annoy me, trust me they do. But they're easier to ignore when other things break our way. If the offense isn't scoring runs, and the pitching is on that night, an error or bad defensive play can make the difference between a win and a loss. But, this 5-0 statistic is really misleading when you consider the O's have won the other half of their games despite making errors because they hit.

They're also 7-0 when they get a quality start.

They're 10-0 when they score more runs than the other team!

They are 10 - 7 while Robert Andino is expecting a child.

Betemit has two errors tonight, and looked shaky on a third play.
I'm tired of pitchers having to face additional batters and throw more pitches because of shoddy defense.

Make that six games we have won when an error was committed. It's amazing what you can do with great pitching and clutch hitting.
