Aubrey Huff placed on DL for anxiety disorder

Aubrey Huff placed on the DL with anxiety disorder

Aubrey Huff has missed the past few Giants games with what was originally referred to as a ?family emergency.? It may be more complicated than that, however, as the Giants have placed him on the 15-day disabled list with anxiety disorder.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com reports that Huff is ?getting treatment,? though it has not yet been specified whether the treatment is for general anxiety or something else.

Obviously these things are always touchy, personal situations so information may be difficult to come by. But we?ll update if and when anything new comes to light.

Sounds like a work-around of the roster to me. You don't just develop an anxiety disorder, it's something he would have been battling through his whole career. This story either isn't over, or is wrong.

Yeah, sounds like they needed a roster spot and pulled some BS with a veteran to keep him employed. I just don't buy it.

The guy's dad was killed when he was 7 years old, who knows what's going on his life. Why go to all this trouble to lie?

Like I said, anxiety disorders don't just develop out of the blue, it would be something he has battled his entire career. A traumatic event doesn't create an anxiety disorder, especially one serious enough to go on the DL.

I paid a lot of money in college to study these. It would have to be panic attack levels to cause something like this, and the odds of those spontaneously developing at his age out of the blue are REALLY not good.

It's harder to lie about an injury because they can be checked and will heal eventually. If he never comes back this season, a mental disorder could easily cause that and no one would cry foul (assuming it was legit), but if he missed the season with a pulled hammy, it would be looked at.

Just curious, at what age is 'too old' to develop panic disorder???

Panic disorders don't just develop, they are biologically based. Not all people with the markers for them start having panic attacks, but generally there is hightened anxiety from early years on.

There are a ton of anxiety disorders, generalized, social, OCD, PTSD, specific phobias...but aside from PTSD which is brought on by a specific event, the rest are there beneath the surface waiting for the right conditions to show up. They don't hide until you're 40 and start showing up though, he would have had some kind of indications of them being there being a pro athlete with the high stress environment.

There's simply little reason to believe that Huff accepted from the Giants the plan that they'd say he was suffering from a mental illness/disorder to avoid a roster issue. I mean, seriously?

And, yeah. I mean, the median age of onset of generalized anxiety disorders is 31. Obviously, there's room for variation.
