Is it possible that an O's team that looked woefully incomplete heading into the current season actually has a 1B, LF, 2B, SS, CF, RF, C, and 5 SP's for the next several years?
Is 3B really this team's only glaring hole?

If he can work on his defense a bit we might have hit gold. He was on fire tonight and that was the best HR I've seen in a long time.

Not a big deal, but did anyone put a tape measure to that shot?

I was at the game tonight.
Yes, the tape measure home run was very impressive, as was the single to left to drive in a run in the second.
What was not so impressive was the bunt single for Oakland in the 1st. The batter dragged it down the first base line, Davis hesitated for a split second, then decided Chen couldn't reach it and broke in for it, leaving no one at first and Andino trying to race the hitter to first. Chen fielded the ball, looked up, saw Davis in no man's land and no one at first and put the ball in his pocket. Really not a good play at all by Davis. I think he looks good on defense usually, but not on that play.
As an aside, the Frank Robinson statue at the Yards is great - it really looks like him. The free statuette they gave away looks pretty good, too. It looks a little less like Frank, but still not too bad.

I did some quick googling but couldn't really find an answer - what is the distance to the warehouse? That had to come fairly close.

Did the ball hit the warehouse on the hop? What a shot, I was sitting in lower LF and lost it for a second when it got as high as the lights and then I saw it coming back down. He could be a popular player, my wife thinks he is hot.

And saving another $3.5 million with the pitcher we got along with Davis for Uehara. Amazing: a 25-year old starting pitcher at $493,500 and a 26-year old first baseman at $488,000 for a 37-year old set-up reliever who the Rangers are currently paying $4,000,000. MacPhail, the Trade Meister, managed to do it again! Almost as good is Michael Gonzalez (33 years old and no longer in the major leagues) at $6,000,000 for Pedro Strop (26 years) at $482,500--a better pitcher who does exactly what we needed Gonzalez to do for $5.5 million less.
That's three former Rangers playing crucial roles and saving us $12.5 million! I like Buck's Texas connection more than MacPhail's Cubs trash heap (Pie, Rich Hill, Rocky Cherry, Steve Trachsel).
What is the difference between picking and pricing free agents (Atkins, Vlad, Lee, Gonzalez et al) and making trades that kept tripping MacPhail up? I don't get why he wasn't a whiz at both.Last edited by LA2; 04-29-2012 at 01:58 AM.
