Ravens Already Wooing Potential UNDRAFTED Rookies

Ravens' Harbaugh texting potential undrafted free agents
    Smith

In recent years the competition for un-drafted free agents has grown more intense, and the wooing of potential un-drafted free agents has already begun.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has been texting such possible possible candidates, according to league sources. Harbaugh's text explains the players' names have come up in draft meetings, how the Ravens would like to find a way to bring him in, and telling the players to feel free to call him with any questions or feedback.

The Philadelphia Eagles began sending letters to borderline draftable players about a year ago, laying the foundation for signing them after the draft.

The letters detailed Philly's interest in a player, and their intention to contact said player after the draft if he is not selected. The Indianapolis Colts, with rookie general manager Ryan Grigson having just left the Eagles a few months ago, have begun the process of sending letters to likely UFAs this year.

The Ravens have taken the recruitment of future players one step further with the sending of text messages. In the modern age, with more modes of communication than ever, all the best to take advantage of them.

The Ravens & each team has a $76,585.00 cap in which to lure undrafted rookies

    http://cache.profootballweekly.com/2...rookie-bonuses

The new CBA placed a cap on the bonuses — up from $75,000 prior to last season — that teams can hand out to these rookies. Before that, some teams offered signing bonuses for as much as $20,000 to certain prized undrafted players, which exceeded bonuses for many seventh-round picks, and some teams often spent in excess of $100,000 worth of bonuses for these players per year.

Per some personal sources, it appears the Ravens have signed UDFA WR Devin Goda from Slippery Rock University.

Sending potential UDFAs a letter a year ago? Isn't that some sort of illegal contact?

Nooooooo! As a Gator fan, I hate Brantley. Not even worth bringing in as an Undrafted FA.

Thompson is fast. Obviously going undrafted and having an unproductive senior season means something but he is a 4.3 receiver at 6ft.

    From NFL Draft Scout:

"Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey had a one-word description of ex-Gator wideout Deonte Thompson after watching him work out Tuesday at Florida's Pro Scout Day: "Fast." Thompson, a Glades Central alum, was one of 18 players slated to participate Tuesday. After a disappointing senior season in which he made just 21 catches for 264 yards, Thompson Tuesday ran a 40-yard dash timed between 4.23 and 4.33."
