Orioles Radio in Frederick County
Sorry if this is a repetitive thread. I just moved to Urbana (Frederick area) from Connecticut. 1090 am came in more clear in Connecticut than in Frederick! I looked at the Orioles radio affiliates across MD and none of them seem to be clear. Just hoping someone else in the area can share some tips.
Go O's!

Forever the Orioles were always on AM930 in Frederick and then the station decided to stop carrying them. The Orioles have to recognize this is a problem. I have heard people complain at night about not being able to get the games in the Frederick area. I assume you tried 1280 out of Hanover, PA and 1470 out of Westminster, I have no idea how well those two stations travel at night time in that area. 1450AM in Thurmont is a very small station and I think they only carry the Orioles when the Frederick Keys aren't playing.
Hopefully 930am will change their mind and add the Orioles again, they don't seem to have as much sports on that station as they did years ago.

There is definitely a gap in the coverage there. I am in Manchester and have a tough time getting both 1090 and 1280 out of Hanover. 1470 in Westminster doesn't carry very well either. I can usually get the game in good enough to hear but it's not very clear.
At least it's better than when the game was on FM though.

I would figure since you are closer to the PA line 1280 would come in better up there. I live about 6 miles from 1470 so that station isn't a problem for me but when I used to live closer to the Frederick County line it could be a problem, 930 would come in better alot of times back then.

To be honest with you. I think it reflects pretty badly on the organization that Frederick, home to their high single A team, would not have a station that you can pick up in the evenings clearly. 1090 is brutal at night. Some may pick it up, but it isnt clear. You would also think that since Frederick is a split town between Baltimore and DC, they would want people to be able to listen to O's games. Younger kids in Frederick will become Nats fans because you can hear their games.

It was probably around 4 years ago or so when 930 cut back to a small number of games and then none at all. If the team starts playing well maybe they will reconsider. The Orioles were on that station ever since I remember. The Orioles added 1450 in Thurmont/Frederick but it is a small station. It isn't good for the franchise, I agree.

I live and work in Howard Co., MD and I was so happy a few years ago when the Orioles switched from WBAL (1090) to 105.7 FM. WBAL booms during the day, but at 6:59 every evening, the signal turns to static-filled mush. I work evenings until 9 PM, and it drives me nuts that I can't listen to the Orioles games on the radio at work, or while driving home. The WBAL signal going north and south is loud and clear at night....years ago, I used to listen to Orioles games when traveling in North and South Carolina. But going west at night, the signal quickly disappears heading west of the beltway.
Why they changed back to WBAL is a mystery to me. Everyone loved FM 105.7 because it booms loud and clear 24/7. WFMD 930AM in Frederick was sometimes a fallback until this year. They didn't broadcast all the games, and the signal was weak, but I could sometimes get a clear signal. Now, that's gone, too.

Do you have a smart phone? If so, get MLB at bat app... You can listen to all of the broadcasts using that... Clear as a "ding-ding".

Maybe 105.7 was good around the Baltimore area, but it was terrible north of the city. There's a rock station on the same frequency in PA (Harrisburg maybe?) that causes the Baltimore station to be completely useless.
1090 isn't great, but it's a lot better than 105.7 (for me at least).

I know the Thurmont,Frederick station is weak but you can try it. WTHU 1450 AM.. Also try the Hagerstown WARK 1490 station. I know I can hear that during the day but not sure at night. Also have you tried the two Washington stations. I know WTEM is strong during the day. WSPZ also might be a choice.
