The problem is that we are winless against them so far. I wouldn't feel so bad if we we got beat 8 - 4, as strange as that sounds.

How can anyone be on the ledge? Seriously.

They're more talented than we are. They play the game better than we do. It's been this way for a long, long time. We find ways to squander games, they find ways to win them.

I can't believe people are acting this way after one good month of baseball. What was this place like in 2005?

Exactly. If we keep pitching like that we will win a lot of games.

They didn't even play a better game than we did, Hammel made one mistake, that's it. We played well tonight. If we play this well throughout the season series with the Yankees, it will even out. Agree with you though, no need to be on the ledge.

I didn't see that at all. We hit a ton of balls right on the nose, but right at people. It easily could have gone our way. But it didn't.

I'm more optimistic about Davis than many posters around here, but his approach during that at-bat was just terrible. Really wanted him to just get one in the air and tie the game up.

I was also pretty frustrated with Jones' attempted steal. I know he wants to be a big time base stealer, but I'm just not seeing it. He's fast, but he's not that fast. I'm not against him going for it every once in awhile, but with Wieters at the plate in the Yankees' bandbox?

The orioles can beat the Yankees on any given day. But if they get it in their head that they can't win against them, then they will lose a lot more than they would other wise. As far as 2005, that start to the season is what lead me here :-)

I hear ya, but this wasn't a game the O's gave away. This wasn't a game the Yanks "found a way to win". You watch the game tonight, you see a 36yr old on the mound, a 40yr old in RF, a SS in LF, and Eric Chavez at 3b. Not exactly the optimum lineup from the Yanks tonight. We killed the ball all night. We'll win those types of game 4 out of 5 times. I don't expect to play .500 against NY, but I do expect us to win games like the ones we played tonight.

The O's have played them tough every game this year. Don't jump yet, the cleanup crew isn't ready.

That steal attempt made no sense to me either.

What small things did the Yankees do exactly? They played solid defense and got a big hit when they needed it. That's what most teams do to win games. They were not "at a different level" tonight

They got the benefit of a call which is par for the course, they always do that better.

Good, rationale points. But the only thing that's keeping my from ripping my own toenails off in frustration right now (I honestly canNOT look at Jeter's sagging, grinning friggin' face anymore) is Weams news-story headline. "Demonic Yankees." Just terrific.

I'm afraid the Orioles/Yankess relationship is highly dysfunctional. We're like the abused party in a screwed-up relationship. Everyone knows the script and the outcome. They all sense that it's grotesque, circular and uninteresting on some level. Yet they just carry out the pantomime forever.

We need Dr. Phil. Actually, we do have a Dr. Phil now - he just needs to do his job. With the talent we have, we should be able to at least compete with the Yankees. But we don't... not where it counts, in the win column. Heartbreaking - actually, it just pisses me off at this point.

    Here's my Dr. Phil impression:

Play like you have a set and show no quarter.

The Yankees games bring out this kind of reaction because they represent so much more than games against anyone else. The Yankees are our final frontier - there's a growing sense that we might be good enough to beat everyone else. But the Yankees have our number, had our number and WILL always have our number. It's like the curse, or something. They might be more talented, but they're not THAT much more talented, especially in the starting pitching area. How did Kuroda dominate us tonight so badly? Doesn't really make all that much sense in a normal world. How will we lose every other game in similar grinding, horrid fashion? MMMMMmmmm. Dunno. But it will happen. We will probably take one of the next two games, just for mathematical/statistical-probability reasons. (Like, every once in awhile, nature "must" produce an albino sloth.)

But until we can actually beat these guys half the time, I have a sense that we're still just playing in the sandbox.
