My First Issue EVER with a Yankees Fan
So I was at the game tonight with my roommate, having a good time and talking with Yankees fans around me. While I was cheering for the Orioles, I was not being overly loud and rude. I wanted to be respectful since I was probably the only Orioles fan in my section. Also, I am just recently coming off back surgery less than 2 weeks ago, so I can't move that well and have to walk with a cane. I did not want to cause any problems with fans.
During the 6th inning when we were threatening to score, Adam Jones hit a deep fly ball to center. When he first hit it, "I said 'Get Out of Here,' only to realize the ball was eventually going to be caught." Apparently, that really ticked off a Yankees fan in front of me. He started yelling at me to shut up or he would punch me. I talked back to him, saying I was not talking to him but cheering for my team, something any fan is allowed to do. He then went right up to me and grabbed my throat to choke me then walked away. I tried looking for an usher or fan assistance text number, but couldn't find any. I couldn't really defend myself because of my recent surgery. Other Yankees fans around me were supportive of me, and couldn't believe what that fan did, considering I am technically crippled. I cannot believe a fan would stoop that low. Fans can yell and heckle all they want, but when it gets physical, that takes it to another level.
So am I asking you all whether or not I should contact the Yankees about this issue. I am not sure what can be done. This incident is not going to stop me from going to Yankee Stadium, but it definitely made me realize how classless Yankees fans are, considering the Yankees organization itself is very classy.

My theory: If you've got a cane, use it.
I don't think there's much the Yankee organization can do, but you might want to take a shot anyway. It can't hurt anything.

Sorry that happened. I've had two back surgeries so I know how sensitive you must be feeling right now. It would be nice to think that somebody there saw what happened and could help you but unless you reported it at the time I'm not sure what could be done. Definitely classless.

I think it's kind of a lost case, if there's no video... sad fact these days.
But, I am encouraged by this: "Other Yankees fans around me were supportive of me, and couldn't believe what that fan did"
I think true Yankee fans, real baseball fans... are as embarrassed by a-holes like that as we were by the "streaker" taken down by the ump.
Crowds breed sad things like this. Whether 40K in the Bronx or 20K in Balmer.

I didn't want to hit him back since that would provoke him to kick my a**. I'm a tall dude but he was way heavier than me, and without me being able to defend myself as well as I am normally able to, I would have probably been back in the OR within a week. But yeah, idk exactly what the Yankees could do in this situation. Maybe if someone knew from a prior experience that could help...

I'm really sorry about what happened to you, but you live in New York City and are really shocked by this? I didn't grow up in the city but spent enough time there to see many a people get their asses kicked at Mets and Yankee games....for far less than what you did (not saying what you did is wrong). It's NYC - home of idiots. Unless it's on video and/or you have some good witnesses, I'm not sure what's to be done as far as the Yankees go. I guess you could probably file a police report and go from there, especially if you can identify him by his seat number and have witnesses.

I'm not a New York City resident. I live in Bel Air, MD but go to college and play baseball at Fordham, which is located in the Bronx. The other fights I have seen at Mets and Yankees games are where both people are going at it. In my case, he started yelling at me. I talked back in a reasonable, non-yelling voice. Then he just snapped. I think he left because he realized the trouble he'd be in if I reported him, since technically he physically assaulted me. Also, for the most part, people in NYC are really nice. It's just the small minority of people that are rude, pompous a****s and ruin it for everybody.

I've never been to Yankee stadium but I've been to Philly, old Three Rivers, Fenway, and Shea. Baseball fans are good people, but there are idiots everywhere.

If it's "just like any other place," why exactly is it "the land of idiots"?
For the most part, Yankee Stadium is a tame place these days, with tons of security. I mean, it's NYC, post 9-11. If you haven't been here in 30 years, you really have no idea what you're talking about.
I feel for the OP, however. Sorry your experience was ruined.

I had batteries thrown at me while I was in uniform at old Yankee Stadium, and I'm telling you this is a ridiculous post. Truly ridiculous.
Casting dispersions like this on any group of people is asinine, but people in NYC are most certainly not idiots.
I can tell you about the encounters I had with 'idiots' in California and make blanket assumptions about them too. But I'm not a ridiculous human being, as you seem to be.

For the most part, people are nice everywhere. For the most part, people are nice in Detroit and Tijuana, Mexico. Doesn't mean I woudn't be careful there. I'm sure they're nice in Lawyer Jim's luxury condominium complex and at his work. It's Yankee Stadium in Bronx NY. Gotta be careful man.
