Moyer getting by with a 76 (!) mph fastball
...Seriously? I'm a lefty. I can throw around that hard. I should try out for an MLB pitching gig.
In other news, Jeremy Guthrie is pitching like butt.

Trade for him at the deadline.

Come on, his fastball is 76.8, that rounds up to 77. Don't sell the man short.

Bill James wrote a piece a few years ago where he speculated that pitchers who really knew how to pitch but had sub-par fastballs might be something smart teams start to exploit. There have to be tens of thousands of pitchers who never really got a chance to develop or even pitch as pros because they had an 80 mph fastball. Essentially the establishement says if fastball < 85, write off immediately.
Even if 1 in 100 or 1 in 500 pitchers with a 80 mph fastball is good like Moyer that's a talent pool. Of course Moyer might be a one-in-a-million...

Maybe Jacob Pettit is worth keeping an eye on, then?
