I wonder if Suggs was wearing Adidas like Rose, Howard, and Shumpert...

    Well this obviously sucks.

Saying that, if the Ravens go in house you have to imagine this just gave Kruger a second life as a starter. Kruger is more of a pass rush guy like Suggs (although not in the same class obviously) so I would guess they'll move him over there and that will leave Upshaw to be the edge setter that he was drafted to be on the other side. This means that Kindle now has a golden opportunity to be the third swing OLB if he's capable.

Next man up of course but yes, this is a huge blow for the team. Not quite the Lewis blow during training camp the year after we won the super bowl, but probably the most devastating off season injury for the Ravens.

Have you stepped back from the ledge yet?

First of all it's sports and people get hurt. It happens to every team. Second, the window is far from closed. Our core isn't old and we should good basically every year as long as we continue to draft well.

This hurts for sure, but life goes on. We're certainly not as good without Suggs as we are with him. At the same time it's just one player. There are still 50+ guys in that lockerroom who know they can win without him.

The Ravens are not going to withold his salary.

His contract doesn't allow playing ball but he's been doing it every offseason and the Ravens know about it.

There's no benefit for the Ravens to get into a pissing match with Suggs over this now. It could be a good opportunity to rework his deal.

Told ESPN he was conditioning. Does it really matter how he did it at this point? Looks like he will be co-hosting with Skip Blayless next year.

I'll say this is pretty heavy in the Ravens favor. Who's available via free agency that can rush the passer. They had a doctor on 105.7 that said he likely can start running in 3 month and be rehabbed in 6 (October-ish). They said surgery likely next week.

Without Suggs, it's hard to imagine Baltimore getting back to that point.

Unless Upshaw miraculously ends up equaling Suggs' production, the Ravens' defense is in for a steep fall in 2012.

Sliding Kruger over makes the most sense as you said as Upshaw looks like he will be able to set the edge better in the way that JJ did. Obviously Kindle and some others will get opportunities. Look for McAdoo to really get a good chance now too. He will have had a whole year to bulk up.

If I were the Ravens I'd be on the phone with this guy

10 Sacks last season for the Patriots...Had a quad injury thats expected to be fully healed real soon.
"They kind of just said, 'Thanks for everything,' at the end of the year and I haven't heard from them since," said Carter. "But I'm optimistic everything works out." Carter tied Mark Anderson for the team lead in sacks last season. He is expected to sign somewhere after his torn quadriceps muscle has fully healed. Apr 25 - 12:02 AM
A 1 year incentive laden deal would be great. How about $200,000 per sack???

We have guys who have shown a knack for getting after the QB whether in the NFL(McPhee Kruger) or in college(Upshaw, Kindle). We also have good corners. I'm less concerned about the pass rush as I am setting the edge and dropping into coverage. JJ and Suggs were both very good at setting the edge on the outside. It's completely unknown how well Kruger and Upshaw can do that in the NFL. You also have Ray getting another year older. I think people just assume the run stopping will be there but if you can;t set the edge and funnell guys back to Cody, Ngata, and Ray in the middle it could get ugly. We don't have the LB speed to chase guys down sideline to sideline or match up with TEs and slot WRs in coverage. Pass rush is honestly probably the least of my concerns right now, at least in the front 7.
