Jarret Martin--making some noise
Looks like he's made some progress since moving to the Dodger's organization...

He's certainly off to a nice start and whatever tweaks they made have certainly helped his control considering his 2.6 BB/9 is much better than his career 5.3 BB/9. Martin had some nice stuff but he was so wild and he couldn't repeat his delivery with the O's. If he's finally figured out how to do that, whoever got him right ought to be rewarded because Martin was wild in high school and college as well. I see he's still a brutal defensive pitcher though with four errors in 13 chances. It will be interesting to see if he's truly turned the corner or was just off to a hot start.

The article is troubling because it suggests the Orioles weren't correcting some mechanical issues Martin was having. I'm hoping to read fewer stories like this (and more stories about pitchers from other organizations finding their stuff when they come here) with Peterson in the fold.

It would have been nice to see what adjustments the new Oriole regime would have made with Martin, had he remained here. We'll never know, but we do have
Eveland here as insurance for this season

Well, of course you hate to read that guys are having success in another organization. With Martin and Bell, you wonder if they ever would have figured it out here. Once you begin failing and then continue to fail, it's hard to ever think you're going to come out of it. Going to a new organization gives guys a new start with an organization that gives them new ideas for how to succeed. I think it was just time for these guys to have a change of scenery... especially Bell. Hopefully, our player development people in the minors will get better and reclaim a few guys for us. I would actually argue that Jason Hammel on the big club has been reclaimed. If he keeps up what he's doing, we won't feel so bad about Martin or Bell.

Was checking his stats. Do pick offs count as Defense Tony?
League leading with 6.
3 errors in first game, maybe nerves at start of season. Two of the four were pick off attempts, only one actual fielding play.
Amazing what the Dodgers did in a month what O's couldn't do in two seasons.
Not only control but velocity up around 95 consistent.
Hope the new farm system handles these kids better. Hate to loose another Gem.

He's not very athletic and was a pretty poor defensive pitcher with the Orioles as well. I agree with you that the early results suggest they've tweaked something with him and yes the early results are pretty good, but there's a long season ahead and he's old for low-A ball now. I liked Martin's arm and stuff when I saw him but his inability to repeat his delivery hurt his overall prospect status. IF he's able to do this now he would certainly become a prospect. At worse he's a bullpen arm if he can find and keep that command.

Bump...Jarret Martin now has a 4.58 ERA, and a walk rate of 5.4/9 IP. Maybe the Dodgers' staff didn't have a magical fix for him after all.
Tyler Henson, meanwhile, has a .751 OPS with Albuquerque after spending the first part of the season in high A.

It happens sometimes with the club that you send a guy out somewhere else and it just clicks. It happens the opposite way too. Chris Davis is back to his 2008 numbers with Texas after being generally uninteresting over there for the past three years. Eveland has been pitching really well for a guy who has a couple of 5.00+ ERA seasons to his name. Hammel is the perfect example of just getting the right shot with O's and making the most of it.
