What's your most interesting trade deadline scenario?

Just for fun, let's say the O's are in the thick of things come mid-July. What is the most interesting trade scenario you can come up with for the O's assuming they are buyers. Try to make it at least reasonably plausible.

O's trade for Ichiro...he's a free agent next year, we could put him in left field...He would fill our need for a lead off hitter very nicely.

Wow that's an interesting idea I hadn't even considered. Good one!

Something involving David Wright. Maybe Tillman, Avery, Bundy Sr, and another top 5 guy of their choosing not named Machado or Bundy. And we'd eat Wright's salary.

I also like going after Wright, but I wonder if trading Bundy Sr. would have some kind of negative impact on Bundy Jr. Do you think both Bundy bros being on the same team would be a benefit in contract negoations once Jr. is up for FA?

I think everyone knows its a business. There's something romantic about them pitching on the same staff one day, but you can't worry about 6 years down the road.

I would love David Wright...others to consider Cole Hammels (if the Phillies are not doing as well), Melky Cabrera, Josh Hamilton, or Delmon Young...obviously guys like Hamilton are very unlikely because the Rangers will not likely be sellers...but just looking at who's a potential FA...

also, I like Ichiro (but I am not sure I could see that happening...don't think Seattle wants to upset their Japanese fan base that much, they'll potentially abandon the team if Ichiro doesn't retire there...) and I like the idea of Torii Hunter if the Angels continue to struggle (which probably won't happen)

I think both the Mariners and Mets would demand overpayment for those guys. I would want a window for an extension talk prior to making a trade for Wright. His price would be high and not worth it for one year for a young team on the rise like the O's. I simply wouldn't want Ichirio.

Orioles are still cruising in first place. Don't make ANY moves at all.

Interesting. I wouldn't want to give up much of value unless he's having a good season though. He really fell off last year.

That's the point though...buyers at the deadline believe that they are a piece or two away from winning a World Series...you give away whatever it takes to accomplish that. Look at what the Giants gave up for Beltran, and what the Indians gave up for Ubaldo Jimenez...the sellers have the upper hand in those negotiations...there's no way to come out even.

With the way this team hits HRs, I think having Ichiro on base ahead of them would be quite nice...plus he's an above average fielder.

Yes, as it was part of the point I was making. I would not overpay for a 38 year old declining Ichiro. I would overpay for Wright, but I imagine we would be hard pressed to make a deal with the Mets that did not include one of Bundy or Machado. The package listed in the OP wouldn't come close to the Mets asking price.

Well, they stand a chance at losing him after the season anyways...he will be a free agent after all...there are no options for them to pick up to retain him. He fits the "trade candidate" mold pretty well: a good player, soon to be a free agent, and clearly on a team that has no hopes of making the postseason...and if the Mariners truly care about their Japanese fanbase, they can turn around and re-sign him in a couple of months.

If we are in it at the deadline that would mean our pitching is holding up well. I would trade for a good field/OBP type 3B or 2B, depending on BRob's status. Play Reynolds and Davis at 1B/DH. I wouldn't be trading a lot of top prospects for a TOR or some big bat.
