He won't be able to play for the first 6 games of the season due to a PED suspension. Hmm...

Yeah this signing doesn't make lot of sense to me , with him being suspended to begin the year. I would of rather that money went towards signing Jones. They must know Suggs is out for the year or something.

I'll say the same thing to you as I said to the guy in the Kemoeatu thread. The NT's playing time has no impact on the OLB/DE type position. The Ravens lost some rotational depth on the inside, and they are simply looking to fill it.

Signings like these can go under the radar, but it's more because casual fans don't understand the value of a quality NT.

4 sacks from the NT in a 3-4 defense last year is the reason this guy got signed.

So I had heard of this guy before but truthfully didn't know anything about him other than he played defensive line for the Broncos but reading up on him I have heard he has played NT but then in other places that he played mostly DE? I know some guys can rotate through the two positions (Ngata for one) but can anyone confirm what he has mostly played? He is listed at 6'5, 305, which would seem a little light to be a real NT. Again, I realize it isn't like he needs to be strictly a NT or DE but I would assume by his size and the fact he had 4 sacks he moves around and isn't just a space-eater but might line up at DT/NT on passing downs like Redding would do at times.

Right McBean/Kemeoatu are clearly replacements for the Redding/McKinnie losses. Denver plays a 3-4 as well, so their DE's play like DT's at times too.

Could make for a great rotation to have Cody in at NT on running downs and a guy like McBean in their on passing downs. The Ravens never have gotten enough push up the middle for my liking, so I really like the signing (minus the suspension which he is apparently appealing).

My guess would be that this is simply a depth signing, and given how hard our schedule is, we may need to do more rotating throughout the year in order to keep our guys healthier and more refreshed over the course of the season.

Yeah for as good as I think Ngata is I feel like he hasn't quite become as disruptive as we had hoped in passing situations. I realize he isn't an edge rusher but he has shown flashes of that ability to get pressure on the QB from the inside but it hasn't been consistent. He started off last season strong and seemed to have a very good 1st half of the season with regards to this but it was really lacking in the 2nd half of the season (he was supposedly dealing with an injury and I'm sure the wear of the season could have had something to do with it as well). Anyways, there was a little hope going into last season that Cody would be a little more disruptive in pass rushing (because his body was in better shape) but that didn't happen either.

Redding was lined up at NT alot in passing downs 2 seasons ago I believe so maybe McBean can bring us that going forward and be somewhat disruptive.

Ravens Insider is reporting that his suspension has been reduced. Unfortunately, I can't access the website from work.

Odd to me that these two things could come together for a settlement with regards to the number of games he is suspended. It wasn't that he won an appeal of his suspension, it was due to his separate lawsuit against the league. Something doesn't seem kosher with that.

I agree, however I dont know the backstory. Maybe he admitted to using a banned substance where the bottle wasn't labeled, admitted it, and the league let him off as a result. Regardless of what is or isn't on the label, you are responsible for what you put in your body. I believe that most of these player associations have a list of all the over the counter supplements and what is or isn't legal. Maybe he didn't check? I believe, but I can't remember who it was, but a couple of years ago someone took some supplements that didn't label all the ingredients on the bottle and they got suspended for it. If I recall correctly, they won the lawsuit against the company, but ultimately, he was still suspended.

Wasn't that the Williams Wall up in Minnesota. I think a Saints guy was involved in that mess too. I want to say Hargrove. Too busy at work to check. But I'm pretty sure it was something like that.
