Is the best record in MLB enough to convince Roy Oswalt?
Would Roy Oswalt consider the O's right now? Should the O's consider him? He'd be a solid veteran with experience, to be a presence for the other guys. Move Hunter to the BP, and send Greg packing.

I'd probably be interested if the price was right. I'd really like to see Hunter coming out of the pen, but I'm also hoping that we can get Britton back into the rotation.
I'm actually quite surprised the Yanks and Sox haven't been more active in trying to acquire his services, given their starting pitching woes.

I'd rather not block Britton for half a season of Oswalt.

I don't think it would block Britton.
Our rotation would consist of Oswalt, Hammel, Chen, Arrieta, and Britton with Matusz to AAA and Hunter to the pen.

I'd really like that move.

Not block Britton? ????? Hunter just got sent down and Matusz might be after 1 more bad outing.
It is Roy Oswalt! Of course we should be interested, but I doubt he signs here. That would be incredible.

After watching Matusz and Berken tonight, this idea suddenly seems much more appealing than it did 4 hours ago.

There must be a reason nobody's taken a shot on Oswalt. If it was just the price the Yankees or Red Sox would be all over him anyway.
Obviously there's the injury concern coupled with price, but you'd think they could come up with some sort of incentive plan. It just doesn't seem normal that a 34 year old guy who had a sub-4 era last year is unemployed.

I would be patient with Matusz as long as his velocity remains in the 90's. Wieters went from the biggest bust to the best catcher in one year. Sometimes guys take longer then a team would like to develop.

Matusz and Hunter aren't looking like they belong in an MLB rotation right now. Send Hunter to the bullpen and Matusz to either AAA or see what San Diego (I admit, that's an arbitrary location) might give us in return.
EDIT: If Matusz alone could snag Wright from NYM, I'd probably go ahead and do that. I know you don't want to trade out of your rotation, but I just don't think that OPACY is the place for Matusz to succeed. Ship him off to Citi Field and let him flourish in the easier league and a huge ballpark. I want Matusz to work out for us, but I'd be willing to use him as currency to fix our gaping hole at 3b and another MOO bat.Last edited by Sanfran327; 05-08-2012 at 08:28 AM.

As a Philly resident and being able to follow Oswalt up here, trust me, we DO NOT want Oswalt. He was out of the lineup and then goes to operate heavy machinery for clearing flood debris, thus aggravating an already sensitive back injury.
Aside from that, his comments about being able to leave baseball and not worry about it leads me to believe he has not much heart to invest in a team, much less helping the O's.
He's got a strong chance to be out with more back problems, and if it's the least big nagging him, he won't say anything, go out there and not pitch well. Gregg sucks, but I'd rather someone else than Oswalt.

He's...not...coming here.
