Apparently we almost signed Jamie Moyer this past offseason...
But didn't because Dan Duquette came in and put the kibash on the idea...
Source: http://blogs.westword.com/latestword...re_orioles.phpFlash forward to last fall. Moyer and the Orioles are negotiating and, Moyer thinks, close to a deal. Then on November 8, the Orioles announce that after a search that saw them rejected by nearly every capable candidate in baseball, they've hired Duquette. Suddenly, the offer to Moyer goes from promising to nearly non-existent.
"They said one thing one day and by the next it was completely different," he says. "They pulled a complete 180."

Signing 49-year old pitchers is not a good plan for the Baltimore Orioles. I have a ton of respect for Moyer, but I'm glad Duquette stopped those discussions, if he did.

We should wait until next year when he's 50. Then I would be OK with it.

Hmmm.. Wei-Yin Chen or Moyer?
Good job, Duq.

It's still hard to believe that a guy who pitched in Memorial Stadium is still around.

Was it Hemond or Gillick who let him walk after the '95 season? I know they were looking for some hard throwers but Jamie was figuring it out; if they had held onto him one more season, who knows?

This is a move El Trea was campaigning for. For some reason he thought this was such a good idea...you know, since he was such an expert on pitching.

This could've been the move that forced Gregg off the roster!

Actually, Moyer spent some time with quite a few of our minor league guys this off season. He had a ton of knowledge to share with them, my son included. I am a big fan of his!
