Earlier this season in Round Rock, home of the state baseball tournament, Flower Mound Marcus pitcher Colin Poch? displayed the superior ability that has made a believer of his coach.

The senior ace limited a historically strong Coppell to four hits in Marcus' 2-1 victory.

Those who weren't there to witness Poch?'s talent that day may also not be aware of his 0.00 ERA through 57 innings pitched.

“You’ll most likely see him pitching on TV one day,” Marcus coach Dustin Sykora.

Poch? has collected six wins in his senior year and has seen opposing runners cross the plate during his time on the mound. However, all runs under his watch have been unearned.

Sykora said his pitching star has everything you can ask for in a left-handed pitcher, including a tall frame that he’s grown into during his time at Marcus.

Poch? has committed to Arkansas, but Sykora believes he won't set foot on campus with major league aspirations looming in the pitcher's immediate future.

Hmmm...can't find much. From an Apr. 5 article about Arkansas signees:

Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus left-handed pitcher Colin Poche (6-2, 188) is rated No. 455 by Perfect Game and Van Horn is hopeful he makes it to campus. Van Horn joked about Poche not liking Arkansas getting swept by LSU last weekend.

“He's probably not too happy with us right now,” Van Horn said. “His dad went to LSU. He's a lefty and they're always in demand. He can throw strikes.”

His brother's scouting report on Poche (from March):

Has topped out at 92 and was throwing 88 consistently in his fall league. Has a good change-up and his slurve is becoming another strikeout pitch.

His summer coaches and others have compared him to Derek Holland at this point in his career.

Looks like he had a really strong senior season that may have moved him up the board.

MASNSteve

Poche played in the WWBA World Championships last fall in Jupiter, Fla., and threw three shutout innings with six strikeouts. Poche also helped the D-BAT Mustangs to the 2011 Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, N.M.

Upon signing him to play at Arkansas, here is quote on Poche from Razorbacks head coach Dave Van Horn on the Arkansas Web site:

"Colin is an athletic left hander that can throw strikes," Van Horn said. "He's also an outstanding student. We feel he has a chance to come in and contribute right away, especially as a left-handed pitcher."

    • Definitely want Maye. But I’m excited about the staff that has been put together to help a QB succeed. Lots of coaching that has worked with first round and high end talent: Mahomes, Mayfield, Murray, Herbert, Hurts. A lot of time when a QB “busts” the drafting organization is partly to blame. So whomever they decide to take is theoretically in a good environment to maximize their talent. I’d stick at 2 though. The exciting part about Thursday is whether or not they trade back into the first to take a tackle.
    • I'd be fine with Kjerstad taking some playing time (OF & DH) away from Santander.  I don't think there would be any drop off in our offense productivity and especially with our young guys (Cowser and Westburg) starting to breakout
    • Sending him down gives the team control of age 26 season, no?
    • I agree that 1B would be his last positional option, just saying that he "could" play there if needed. But I agree, he will probably DH or play RF mostly.
    • My guess is, teams will figure out Suárez eventually.  But I’m going to enjoy the ride in the meantime.   And I’d gladly see him in the bullpen in place of Baumann.  This guy at least knows how to pitch.
    • With O’Hearn, Mountcastle, and Santander I don’t really see much of a need to play Kjerstad at 1B.  If this is more than a short term thing, I would hope that they make his transition as easy as possible, and DH mostly while allowing a few starts in RF. That is to say, let him focus for the most part on his hitting instead of trying to grasp a position (first base) that he still doesn’t seem comfortable with.
    • But not if they bring in lefty and Rutchman and Santander switch sides. That being said, their only lefty relief options are Jose Suarez, who has thrown 53 pitches between yesterday and Saturday and also isn’t very good, and Matt Moore, who is a bona fide reverse splits guy.   Still, I think Westburg bats 6th so he isn’t back-to-back with Tony. Cowser or Mullins would bat 5th, with the other batting 7th.
