Thoughts from Orioles Analytics Seminar 6/26
Author justD
Speakers Dan Duquette EVP Orioles, Bill Squadron Head of Bloomberg Sports, Rick Peterson Director of Pitching Development, Orioles
6/26/2012 5:30 PM to 7PM
Thoughts on talk at OPACY
Two packages that are available thru Bloomberg. One was demonstrated that was for the public for fantasy and examples were given of trade analysis--recommendations of who you need and who needs what you have plus analysis of one you suggest.
Second is commercial version, examples given of advanced scouting features: every pitch since 2006, all other available play data since 1900. pitch locations, type, result, pitch count, number of outs. all kinds of filters available to answer specific conditions, what happened next, etc.
How successful the hitter is under these filters.
How successful the pitcher is.
Shows pie charts or tables of pitch sequences.
At any time, a pitch is tagged to video if available to watch it.

That is some great information Mr. Weams. It makes me feel much more confident in what the front office is doing and where this team is headed.
Right now I'm so happy that we had that "fiasco" in our GM search and had to back into Duquette.
It might just be the pain pills talking, but Duquette and Showalter might be the best thing that has happened to this organization since Hank Peters and Earl Weaver.

"So. Now we know what Wieters has been looking to the dugout for. Pitch Sequencers based on changing scenario filters"
I and a couple other people were absolutely roasted for floating the idea that a coach in the dugout might be able to provide insight into real-time pitch calling. Absolutely roasted.
Also, all that stuff sounds fantastic. Miles ahead of even the most advanced armchair-GMing done on this board. Sounds like Duquette may in fact know his stuff.

06-27-2012 12:25 AM #11Love this. I hope people can keep this in mind when evaluating minor league results from our pitching prospects.#Orioles pitching sustainable based on use of technology. Daily pitching charts reviewed. Focus on process not outcome. #RickPeterson

Post of the Year. Drungo's going to be beside himself with joy when he reads this. I almost feel like Duquette gave too much away here. So nice to be on the cutting edge for once.
