Justin Upton
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic on Tuesday that he is willing to listen to offers for Justin Upton.
"My job is to try to make this club better," said Towers. "We're not out shopping him by any means. Clubs have asked; I've said, 'Hey, tell me what you would do.' We could either say yes or say no." Many have speculated that the Diamondbacks could ask for some of the best young talent in the game in return, but Towers said that he's not looking for prospects and that the team is still in "win mode."

I am not saying there is really much chance of this happening at all, but in your opinion could we put a package together (w/o MM and DB) that would entice them. He would be under control for a while, so I would guess that he would be very expensive.
I dont know how far a package that started with Arrieta, Matusz, Schoop and would likely need to add at least another player or 2 to the package before we could get there.

I was just thinking of starting a thread on Upton just for kicks. I agree it isn't going to happen, but makes for good baseball talk.
Your above deal isn't going to happen because Towers is going to want major league impact players, not guys who haven't really figured it out yet.
A package of something like Hammel, Johnson, Hoes, and Schrader is, I think, a little more realistic. I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense for the Orioles, though, and I doubt the Dbacks would accept.

This is definitely a "for kicks thread". I know they won't do it.

They want 3 starters.
We have 0 starters to lose.
delete thread.

I've started at least one thread on Upton and mentioned him several times over the last few weeks. IMO, the O's don't have much of anything that would interest the DBacks. And throwing multiple "fail" guys in with Schoop almost certainly wouldn't get it done.
Yesterday, MLBTradeRumors posted http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/0...s-tuesday.html, which doesn't contradict what their GM said (because a writer's opinion shouldn't be held above what the team actually says), but I think it sheds some light on who the Orioles would have to be willing to part with in a deal for Upton. The relevant quote is as-follows:
In other words, I think a deal would have to center on Machado, plus 1-2 other players. I am not say the Blue Jays prospect is even in the same universe as Machado in terms of talent/value, but it'd probably take something like [one of the failed starters you mentioned], Machado and a lesser prospect, at least, to get in the Upton conversation. The Diamondbacks are known to like shortstop prospect Adeiny Hechavarria, though he wouldn?t be enough to tempt the Diamondbacks.
