David DeJesus. .359 OBP this year and he plays good defense in left. This should have been done a long time ago, given that the Cubs are sellers and he clearly fits our needs on several levels.

I assume we could acquire Dejesus pretty cheaply.

I think that they could get a better first prospect than what the Orioles would be willing to offer them. Avery/Hoes as the first player isn't likely to get it done IMO. I like headley, but his value is inflated due to the lack of quality 3B in the game. I think we need a bat as well, but this team just seems to have too many holes for me to think that additions of Headley and /Wandy Rodriguez/Dempster would be enough to push us in the playoffs.

You're right neither Avery or Hoes could be the first player in a trade for Headley. But, Matusz, a San Diego State star, and Avery could top that bill, with a third second tier prospect like Bridwell or Wright could finish it out. Headley is undervalued, IMO, not over, since he plays in baseball's worst hitters park. Much better player away. Better than any 3B in our system, unless that's where Machado is to end up. Good enough OBP to hit leadoff in our lineup. Let's Hoes get a shot in LF after clearing out Avery and with Reimold on the DL. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'm only going to post this here (i.e., bury it in a random thread) because I don't want to be labeled as completely nuts/off the reservation, but there's a large part of me that would be 100% OK with losing Machado, Schoop, and two out of Matusz/Arrieta/Britton, along with one or two lesser prospects, if the results of those losses were Justin Upton and Headley coming to the Orioles. The team would still have major SP problems, but those two acquisitions would solve the majority of the O's defensive and offensive issues in one fell swoop (granted, neither Upton nor Headley has batted leadoff this season, but they both carry OBP's that would lead the current O's by more than 20 points...and OBP is something the O's are lacking throughout the lineup).
