Magic Numbers and teams the Orioles have eliminated

Now that the Orioles have ended their losing streak and the past 3 weeks have seen the great job by SteveA and his recounting of the past 14 season, I thought a new thread to look forward to everyday might be needed. Something I never thought I would say or read this year would be the following: The Orioles Magic number to make the playoffs and teams they have already eliminated are as follows as of this minute (the magic number listed is only as it relates to the Orioles):

    Indians: Eliminated
    Twins: Eliminated
    Red Soxs: 3
    Blue Jays: 5
    Royals: 4
    Mariners: 8
    Tigers: 15
    White Soxs: 16
    Rays: 16
    Angels: 16
    Yankees (Win the Division): 20
    A's (Top Wildcard Spot): 21
Texas (Best Record in AL!!): 25

I apologize in advance if my math was off, feel free to correct or comment.

The magic number is the number of combined Oriole wins and losses by the other team to eliminate that team from having a better record.

So, if our magic number for the Red Sox is three, any combination of Oriole wins and Red Sox losses adding up to three will guarantee the Orioles will have the better record this year.

And I can't wait for that!

Frobby, You may get your wish tonight. Unfortunately, the Red Soxs lost last night and didn't help us with the Yankees. These are updated as of this morning.

    Indians: Eliminated
    Twins: Eliminated
    Red Soxs: 2
    Blue Jays: 4
    Royals: 3
    Mariners: 7
    Tigers: 15

Congrats, Frobby. The O's eliminated the Red Soxs tonight. Let's hope by Tuesday after the game that we have eliminated the Royals, Jays, & the Mariners.

    But the Orioles can.

He's hoping the Yankees lose, thus not eliminating Toronto, but the Orioles win, thus eliminating both.

That would indeed be the ideal scenario.

As a reminder as per my opening statement: The below chart is as it relates to the teams catching the Orioles and purely the Orioles magic number. As an example the Jays could still mathematically tie the Yankees but not the Orioles. So as it pertains to this thread the Orioles have Eliminated the Jays and Mariners last night (technically this morning!!)

    Indians: Eliminated
    Twins: Eliminated
    Red Soxs: Eliminated
    Royals: Eliminated
    Blue Jays: Eliminated
    Mariners: Eliminated
    Rays: 9
    Tigers: 10
    Angels: 12
    White Soxs: 13
    Yankees (Win the Division): 16
    A's (Top Wildcard Spot): 16
Texas (Best Record in AL!!): 19

Rooting hard for the Blue Jays today and tonight. Hoping to go to bed tonight with the Orioles in first place alone on Sept. 19th.

Its very difficult to sweep a double header, so I'll be very happy with the Yanks and Jays splitting the DH, and us beating the King tonight and claiming a half game lead in the AL East!

If the Yankees split today, can the O's be alone in first place with a win?
