Why hasn't Buck named a starter for Game 4?

It's between Tillman and Saunders. For the life of me, I can't figure out why he hasn't named Tillman the starter. Obviously Buck's considering something that I'm not. Does anyone have an idea?

Buck said he's not ready to announce Game 4 starter.

Might be a different choice if it's 2-1 vs 1-2? That's all I can really think of.

We're following the Nats brilliant lead and shutting him down.

Why give the Yankees anymore information then you have to?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's it.

If the Orioles come out on top tomorrow, you have to go with Saunders in game 4 and hope you can save Tillman for the next series.

No because Hammel or Chen could pitch Game 1.

I was wondering if Tillman might be having some elbow pain (like he did earlier in the season), but why would Buck waste a roster spot on him?

I also considered that maybe we carried both Saunders and Tillman in case Hammel couldn't go Game 5, but why should that make a difference?

Maybe it has something to do with Sabathia. If the Yankees push him to Game 4, maybe that would affect who Buck goes with. Although, I'm not sure why that would affect things. There's something that isn't adding up (to me) here.

He had a good start in TEX but for some reason I like him as a long relief man incase these youngins in NY have a quick rough start.

Hmmm...maybe it could be the reverse. With Oakland's struggles vs. lefties, maybe Buck is considering Saunders and Tillman for Game 4, but he may be more inclined to save Saunders if there's a shot they could play the A's.

Still, hasn't Tillman proven to be the better pitcher the 2nd half of this season? He has had some successful starts in Yankee Stadium. Why not just throw him out there?

In today's Charleston Post and Courier they have listed Tillman as the starter for Game 4. I'm not sure where they got their information, but I thought I would share.

The ALCS starts on 10/13, so hypothetically I don't think you would want Chen going until game 2 at the earliest, on 5 days rest. You might even want to hold him out until game 3.

I think Tillman is the overwhelming favorite at this point, but there's not sense in locking yourself into something when so many variables will play out over the next couple of days.

    Tillman should pitch regardless

Wow, I didn't know it was the next day after Game 5. Yeah, I'd say Chen is better off going in Game 2 (if we were to be so fortunate).

Yeah, I was shocked when I saw that, too. I have no idea what the thinking was behind there not being an off day between a 5 game ALDS and the ALCS.
