Yet another good Buck article

Got that Yankees slant but I'm very glad he's ours now. Too many salient quotes to quote.

I think the article does a great job of laying out exactly why Buck was the PERFECT manager for this team and organization. Truth is, as much as I hate the Yankees you have to acknowledge the fact they have a proud tradition. The Orioles have one also and after years of losing it became something we all remembered fondly but kinda lost as an active part of the organization. I think Flanny in his way tried to restore that. I think that's awfully hard to do though as a GM unless the guy managing the team on the field has the same zeal for it. It just seems from Day 1 Buck came in here and reminded everyone of the tradition and responsibility that wearing the uniform of the Orioles means. That's a joy to see

For Buck, Revenge is Bittersweet
O
For Buck, Revenge is Bittersweet
(By Ian O'Connor)
"This is where I grew up, but their eighth hitter has 43 home runs and so I don't have time to get in the nostalgia of it," Showalter told ESPNNewYork.com. "I'm a Baltimore Oriole now, and I love the place."
***********************************************
Those are your kids, he was told (Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera).
"Yeah, and ask them how much attention I give them," Showalter said. "I don't give them the time of day because they're wearing the other uniform."

Would it be possible - even legal - for Buck to adopt me? I can see me waving to my wife and kids out the window of Buck's big wood-side station wagon, as we slowly pull out of the driveway for the last time. Buck looks over (in full Orioles regalia,of course), punches me in the shoulder and says: "You wanna go for a burger? Yeah? It's going to be alright, Burns. It's going to be alright." Then he starts humming Orioles Magic...

"We're the Baltimore Orioles. We have a lot of history, too."
Great quote!
Why does it feel like Buck has been an Oriole much longer than the 2 1/2 seasons he's actually managed?

I was hoping for more like Aunt Edna's dog, Dinky. "Poor little guys. They probably kept up with you for 4 games. Just couldn't hold on in game 5."

That is a terrific article. Buck has been so low key in his post-game pressers in this series, he's almost catatonic. I'm sure he needs to keep his feelings about the past well-buried, and that helps him to do it. But if the O's win tonight, while Buck does his low key "proud papa" thing, you know he'll be dancing a jig on the inside.

All in all a nice piece, only thing about that article that kind of pissed me off was the little crack at the end:
If New York finds a way to lose? Really?Showalter has his own personal history to manage. He ended up in a pool of tears when he managed the Yankees in a Game 5 in Seattle, and he's compared watching a tape of that crushing 11-inning defeat to watching "Brian's Song" with the lights off.
Seventeen years later, he desperately needs a different ending to the movie. If the New York Yankees find a way to lose this Game 5, Buck Showalter will leave the crying to someone else.
