Besides the sheer joy of this season the best thing is that we should be a good spot for free agents

I would have to imagine the league has heard about how great this clubhouse is. And with the great run we just made and the fact Angelos has hinted at opening up the cash register. I would imagine Baltimore has just become a pretty attractive spot for free agents.

I hope this allows us to get a much stronger bench.

I agree with this part. I don't want us to go out and spend on high priced free agents. I'd rather use some of that money on international free agents. If we can get a true TOR pitcher that'd be great but, I am afraid of what a bad contract would do to us.

I feel most FAs will see that boston is now a last place team for a while and see that the Os are a viable team to help take over the hump.

The Os need a legit #3 or 4 hitter above all us. I honestly think Machado could be tgat #3 guy but i would still like to add a guy of the caliber of Encarnacion or prince fielder

Unfortunately this new found FA magnetism comes in an offseason devoid of quality bats (except Hamilton).

They may need to spend their money on a top flight pitcher and then trade some cheaper pitching talent for the big bat. ...But that will cost more money so I will believe it when I see it.

What we really need to do is pay some top flight CIA interrogator/brain washer to convince the middle of our lineup not to swing at change ups and curveballs low and out of the zone.

That would prove WAY more fruitful than any FA signing.

I don't see a whole lot of quality in the free agent "bench" market. I think Jeff Keppinger would be a nice target, but he's probably looking for a starting gig somewhere...and I'm not sure if he's good enough defensively at second to be a starter. A guy like Jonny Gomes might be a decent fit, but I think he's pretty limited to DH'ing.

Check out the FA list here: MLB Trade Rumors FA List

EDIT: I'm pushing for Shawn Marcum. He's pitched well in the AL East.

How Napoli.. him and wieters could switch on and off DHing. Wieters won't have to sit so many innings behind the plate. Just a thought..probably not likely.
