This Is Why I Think We Are Here To Stay

    1. Jason Hammel
    2. Wei-Yen Chen
    3. Miguel Gonzalez
    4. Chris Tillman

Doesn't matter what we do with our lineup. I like our defense if Reynolds returns. We have enough depth to find a solid #5 starter behind those 4.

The fact that we have these 4 guys signed for next year, and that I personally have a ton of confidence in all 4 of them, makes me think that next year will be competitive again.

I actually think Chen is better next year.

Thing is though, game 5 in both series just demonstrated why you need an ace to win in the postseason. Sabathia and Verlander pitched complete games to will their teams to the ALCS. Out guys pitched very well, but none is capable of pitching a complete game on a consistent basis, IMO.

So you want us to go get Verlander and Sabathia? There are about 15 of them in free agency this year so I'm sure we will be able to get one of them.

A #1 would still come in handy. But yeah, I think or hope there wont be much regression out of our top 4 starters.

Preferably, I'd like us to develop one. Sabathia and Verlander are actually rarities, there are few if any like them available year to year.

Ohhhhh, I see what you were doing there. That saracstic thing.

What if we ended up with an ace internally? Bundy still has an ERA of 0.00 for his entire big league career.

Not sure if you are a new fan to this team, but we have a guy in our system called Dylan Bundy. He is supposed to be pretty good.

I agree with your point, I'm just not sure where you are going with it. If you were saying we should go get one in free agency, if you were saying we don't have anyone that is going to become that guy, or if you were juts saying that we don't have him yet.

I agree with the premise of the OP. However, if the opportunity to improve above those four is there, you take it. Know it is not happening, but would love to get Shields or Peavy. I also think getting a high OBP 2nd baseman is a must. Move Roberts to the bench. Yeah, I know, not going to be too popular of an idea. How many games did we lose this year because Chavez or Andino failed to advance runners. Those two positions/spots MUST be improved. Otherwise, I am happy with the pitching as it is.

I think Buck likes Flaherty a lot, but I honestly have NO idea where this team is going with 2B this offseason.

Thought about this earlier. We are going to have a GREAT problem...possibly add to this Bundy and Gausman. It's going to be awesome!

I'm saying the jury is out on all counts. We don't know what we have in Gonzalez, Tillman or Hammel. And we don't know how good Bundy will truly be. I'm hopeful, but it's not a lock.

I'm not sure if we're here to stay yet.

How long do you want Hammel and Gonzalez, and even Tillman to succeed before you "know" what you have in them?

    Longer than half a season.

Okay. Fair enough. Hammel was almost a full season but understood.

Tillman still worries me a little, but I love Gonzalez. I think Chen is better next year. And Hammel looks to be what he is right now.
