Be careful not to get caught up in the MLB media hype

I just wanted to remind you guys to not get caught up in the MLB media hype this off season. Let's flash back to last off season for example. Last off season, the Marlins were all the rage and were predicted to have a great season. Last off season, the Oakland Athletics were predicted to have a terrible 2012 season since they traded allot of their players in the off season. I don't have to remind you what the MLB media predicted for the 2012 Baltimore Orioles. After what happened this year in MLB, I am going to try and not get caught up in the media's predictions this off season. The Bluejays might be the talk of the town right now in MLB but were have to see if that still is the case after the 2013 season. If the Orioles stay healthy in 2013, they won't have any problem finishing higher in the standings than the Bluejays. You can mark my words on that.

Rumors, too. There are tons of hacks out there that float names around just to do it and get page views. Freaking out over these stupid, nonsense rumors is ridiculous. There's a strong distinction between "Player X and Team Y could be a good fit" and "Player X and Team Y are nearing a deal". The former is interpreted as the latter too often.

The O's need to start 2013 with the team that ended the season or better to be a playoff team. Not signing our free agents, non tendering Reynolds without replacing him, or trading away pitching depth that was needed to get through the season do not making the team better. We don't have to compare the O's to other teams. We can compare them to the O's team we saw win last August, Sept and October.

Do you have any doubt that Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter know this?

Thankfully Boston is still in the division. But I'm positive most outlets will have us 4th.
