    Shin Soo-Choo

I think this could be the trade target. I think he is normally a RF but could easily be switched to play left. He has had some past injurie issues but was healthy last year and can put up solid numbers when healthy. He is only signed through 2013 so he should be a low risk, high reward player. He would become a major upgrade and than we could look to sign him to an extension.

Cleveland seems to want young pitching, and based on what it took to get Span for washington, we may be able to get Choo for a AA pitching prospect or one of our young starters who hasn't been as consistent as we would have hoped. I think a Choo, Jones, Markakis outfeild looks great.

    Thoughts?

He's a Boras guy so you'd never get him to sign an extension. Unless their demands drop significantly, I'm not paying that heavily for a one year rental.

Love the idea, love Choo, hate the Boras factor. And unfortunately that's enough to squash this deal. It would only be a rental unless we pony up some serious money to keep him.

Two problems: Choo is better than Span (or at least the perception of him is better) and we don't really have any comparable prospects to Alex Meyer.

That's why him only having one year of team control left is a good thing

I think even if you only get him for one year and then boras finds him a huge deal somewhere else than its still worth it. He would improve our team, give us a year to see if Hoes will be ready or if Reimold can come back and be healthy, and if he walks after the one year than we will most likely get a 1st round pick for him if he doesnt resign with us.

He is considered better than span but being viewed as a rental will limit the return the Indians will be able to expect.

He would still probably cost us Britton, Schoop, and another decent pitching prospect. Pass.

Eh. I doubt any other team comes close to that.

    And neither should we.

Their asking price is reportedly very high, and the pieces we have to offer don't have half the trade value that a lot of posters on this site seem to think that they do. Britton is a question mark. Ditto for Matusz and Arrieta. Schoop is a B- prospect at best. Hoes and Avery MIGHT be C+ prospects but that's probably generous in the case of Avery.

Meyer is not just any AA pitching prospect. Minny did quite well for themselves.

If they did land him and he was a Type A free agent would the Orioles get a pick out of it? I know if you trade for someone mid-season in his final year he can't turn into a draft pick but what about before the season?

I feel like this is kind of not as founded as people think, but I don't have proof at the ready.

Either way, I like Choo as a player. He's another Nick Markakis.
