Is our everyday 1Bman already on the roster?
Not in Chris Davis, but Nolan Reimold? If Reimold can make that transition (who knows if he can?), then both our lineup and team got better. First base is also a place he's a lot less likely to be injured. This also makes McClouth the everyday LFer for sure, which improved our defense there.
Flaherty is another guy that might be worth giving a shot, too. He's pretty tall for a 2Bman and he's got a decent amount of pop. I'd try Reimold first, since his bat is proven.
I know I don't want Betemit there. And, I'd prefer Davis not play there, either. But, if need be, he's at least better than Betemit. Anything but Betemit anywhere (ABBA?), really.
Davis is a DH, let's keep him there. He can get a spot start or two in Right or LF. He proved at least serviceable there.

I don't think so. They tried him some at first a couple years ago at Norfolk. While I never heard any specific bad things about his play there... the feeling I got from Roch and others and interviews was that Nolan was just a no-go at first. Like a foregone conclusion.
EDIT: I mean, he's not even very great in left. His speed helps him to be simply adequate in the OF. As a 1Bman or left fielder... Nolan is a heluva hitter!

I have no doubt that Davis can be at least a league-average 1B. He was considered solid defensively when we acquired him, and I'm confident that he'll be fine there with regular playing time. Not GG-caliber or anything, but at least servicable. Besides, the offense is much better off with Betemit getting as many starts as possible vs. RHPs, and I certainly don't want him in the field. Reimold's best use is as a platoon partner for Betemit(DH)or McLouth(LF) vs. LHPs until he proves he can stay healthy for a full year.

Davis did a pretty good job in RF last year. He has surprising speed and a great arm. I think Markakis could be a GG 1B. He played three games there in 2011 with no apparent difficulty. With half the O's playing half their games in OPACY, Nick's defensive abilities might be of more use at 1B.
LF McClouth/Urrutia
CF Jones
RF Davis
1B Markakis
DH Betemit/Reimold

I'm pretty sure that right now it's Chris Davis.

No. How about we sign a legitimate 1B via trade or FA. Sometimes I shake my head at the O's. It's been awhile since this team had a legitimate power-hitting 1B.

So basically, you'd have Davis and Markakis switch places? Sorry, but I can't agree. Nick is a very polished RF, Davis was serviceable there. I do think that last year Nick was a step slow, coming off his abdominal surgery, but I expect him to be back at full speed this year. He's not a speed merchant, but he's average to slightly above average when he's healthy, in my estimation. He's much better at tracking fly balls than Davis.
If Nick continues to look a little slow, I will reconsider.

Reimold should not be looked at as answer to anything, nor should he be given anything. He needs to prove he's healthy and can stay healthy, something he has never been able to do.
