Navarro vs. Flaherty
Navarro: 25 next season, .279/.350/.437 in the minors, including .273/.353/.471 in 141 games in AAA. Mostly a SS as a minor leaguer but has played 2B and 3B and a little 1B and OF.
Flaherty: 26 next season, .279/.346/.464 in the minors, including .247/.289/.422 in 58 games in AAA. Mostly a 2B as minor leaguer but has played 3B, SS and some OF and 1B, too.
Navarro has been called up in three consecutive seasons and has a .494 OPS in 178 PA.
Flaherty had to stay on the Orioles' roster all year and had a .617 OPS in 167 PA.
The two seem pretty comparable. We discuss Flaherty's chances of being our 2B pretty frequently, but Navarro seems like he'd have almost as good a shot. My guess is that both begin 2013 in Norfolk, and we'll see what happens from there.

I liked the move when it happened. Seems like he could be a solid UIF for a few years, with an outside chance at becoming more. I'll be interested to see how his glove plays during the spring.

If Flaherty has a strong ST I could see this:
Roberts to 60 Day DL
Casilla UTL / BENCH
Flaherty your starting 2B for 2013.

Navarro looks a little tubby to me. Don't know much about him though.

IMO I just dont think his body can take more than a few consecutive weeks of playing ball.
This was the last report:
http://www.masnsports.com/school_of_...ree-years.html"I've been going at it ever since the surgery," he said. "The first month was slow rehab stuff. Once I hit the eight-week mark at the end of September, I started to do a lot more. I've been cleared pretty much of any restrictions at this point. Now I'm in my normal offseason training program. And I'm doing more (baseball) stuff now. Not having been able to play as much in the past few years, I'm hitting earlier and doing more baseball stuff than I did in the past to be ahead of the curve."

I think he has had weight and focus issues - which is probably why he's been overlooked, but if Buck can take him under his wing early, I think there's a LOT of upside. He's got a real quick bat with pop and seems to understand the strike zone - and enough range and arm to stick at SS in the minors. I am surprised at how little he's been talked about. They can stash him in the minors 1 year, but if he and Flaherty are ready to be a major leaguers, don't keep Roberts around to hit .220 and not have the range or arm to play adequate 2nd base. It's time to convince Roberts to retire gracefully.
