Things that don't quite match up for the O's

Here is a few that I think about. Maybe you have others or want to correct me on the ones I offer:

    1) Buck says that a bullpen with pitchers that don't have options is in trouble.
But - The O's current pen of J Johnson, Strop, Ayala, Patton, Hunter doesn't have options. Its hard to think that O'Day would be optioned and the place where McFarland has the best chance of winning a roster spot is in the pen. And he can't be optioned.

    2) Buck says the biggest jump in sports is from AAA to the majors.
But - Machado was promoted from AA and the O's are talking about doing the same with Bundy and Gausman.

    3) Mark Reynolds is let walk because he cost too much.
But- The O's are trying to find another bat that will probably cost as much or more. (Who says DD is not a risk taker?)

Maybe the time space continuum has not matched up for the O's just yet.

I think Buck wants guys in AAA with options. Last year's bullpen was Johnson, Strop, O'Day, Ayala, Lindstrom, Patton and Gregg most of the year. See a lot of guys with options there? The options were in the rotation, not the bullpen.

Buck has stated specifically, so has DD, that they want a bullpen member or two to have options at the major league level. I don't know how they will go about that unless they trade Patton or Strop.

I could envision DD trying to work out a deal with Cleveland to retain MacFarland's rights.

To be fair they are considered "super prospects" I 100% agree with him there is no bigger jump in sports then from AAA baseball to the Majors.

Well... yes. But for the most part those 6 guys are pretty proven. At this point, you're only waiting for injuries and the guys to replace them (Wada, McFarland, S. Johnson, Arrieta, Matusz, Britton) all have at least 1 option. Of course, it's possible that O'Day or Ayala could have a really bad year with lots of guys in the minors ready to replace them, but I think I trust DD to make the proper moves (release or trade) in order to fix those potential problems.

In other words, I think Buck said that before when he bullpen stunk and had few options. Now it's great with few options so there's a little bit of a difference.

Reynolds was never coming back. Regardless of cost.

I believe this (now). It wasn't about saving money or couldn't afford him. The extra $6 million was just a bonus. To put toward a better overall hitter.

While Reynolds had a magical month or so...I spent likely more than half the season wishing Buck would bench him. $6 million for maybe a .220 averege, 200+K's, and 30 home runs.......I think most people will pass when you have Chris Davis coming off the season he just did with ability to play first for less.

I think their line up is fine if Riemold has the season he owes us, and McLouth hit's 15-20HR (very possible).

If all that goes right then that's like 4 things that went perfect for us birdcrazy. I would feel ahead of the curve if one did. If two did I would think we're in the thick of it again.

Right. Expecting too much from Reimold, Roberts, and McLouth is something that I just can't do. I hope they all stay healthy and do well but that is not the way the team should plan. Right now I would say that Hoes and Flaherty each get more at bats for the O's in 2013 than any one of them.
