    Arbitration Numbers

    From Heyman

jim johnson files for $7.1M, #orioles for $5.7M
jason hammel files at $8.25M, #orioles at $5.7M
    From Dan Connolly

    Reliever Darren O’Day, $3.2 million $1.8 million.
Interesting that they came up with the same figure for both Johnson and Hammel.

Hammel is not going to win. Johnson might actually have a shot. Either way, hopefully they both settle so the Orioles aren't forced to unleash the Smouse.

Neither demand is outrageous. These cases will settle. What's up with O'Day?

Closer Jim Johnson, who led the majors in saves with 51, asked for $7.1 million while the Orioles countered with $5.7 million. He is in his third year of arbitration and made $2.625 million last year.

Starter Jason Hammel, who was 8-6 with a 3.43 ERA in 20 starts for the Orioles last year, asked for $8.25 million and the Orioles countered with $5.7 million. He is in his fourth year of arbitration and made $4.75 million last year.

Reliever Darren O’Day, who was 7-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 69 games for the Orioles, asked for $3.2 million and the Orioles countered with $1.8 million. He is in his third year of arbitration and made $1.35 million last year.

They almost always split the difference and settle, so Johnson 6.4M, Hammel 7.4 M or maybe they extend him for 2, O'Day 2.5 M. or thereabouts.

I think O'Day has a better chance of winning then Johnson.

I think 1.8 is probably closer than 3.2. I think that one just settles at 2.5 though. Easy compromise.

Of course a good way to stay undefeated is to only fight when you know you will win.

I expect all three to be settled without arbitration.
