Depth Chart: Who is the backup CF?

I've been noodling over scenarios and came up on a disturbing one. If Jones goes down for long period of time, who plays CF? Let alone attempts to replace his bat?

As an engineer, I dislike single points of failure and methinks Jones missing the season would devastate this team.

Avery? His bat would be exposed.

Can McLouth be a everyday CF? He was in 2008-2009 but then he got hurt.

Michael Bourne is still unsigned, he would be an ideal backup CF, but he made $7 million last year and clearly wants more. And I doubt he signs to be a backup.

Is this team better with Jones in LF, Bourne in CF, and McLouth as the 4th? At what cost would Bourne be worth it?

McLouth is the backup. Avery/Robinson/Hoes is Plan C. Bourn isn't coming here.

Robinson has a very good glove. I assume McLouth will be the backup if Jones takes a day off, but they have a lot of options regardless.

This leaves Reimold in LF, which isn't a bad choice, but this makes for one injury prone outfield. Particularly with Markakis coming of wrist surgery.

I realize there is no ideal way to replace your best player. But is this enough depth?

    Markakis just had wrist surgery.
McClouth was been a mess since 2009 other then 3 months last year.
Reimold has never played a full season (or even close).
Avery/Robinson/Hoes are long shots for ML success.

    Urrutia?

McLouth is the centerfield backup. He's not a guy you would prefer to play there everyday, but he would be good enough to stay out there if Jones went down.

Markakis was fully recovered from wrist surgery at the ASB last year.

Most teams do not have a lot of good depth options at CF, SS and C because of the defensive challenges of those positions. Right now, with McLouth, Reimold, Robinson, Hoes, Avery and maybe even Urrutia at some point, I think the Orioles have some decent depth in the outfield.

Let's just hope Jones doesn't go down. McLouth's career UZR and TZ numbers in center are abysmal.

Bourn looks like he may only be getting a short term deal now. If we could get him for ~15 million a year I think he'd easily be worth it. He's been worth just over 20 million per season over the last 4 years according to Fangraphs. That said, it isn't happening.

McLouth is the "Jones tweaked a hammy and needs to come out" backup CF. Avery is the "Jones is on the DL" backup CF.

I think the minimum he will get is 4 years at 15 million a year. That is a lot of money but its not mine. So I say sign him. Good Obp and good fielding and he scores a lot of runs.

You doubt he signs as a back-up and you think he wants more than 7 million a year? Come on be more certain of yourself. THere is no way in the world he will sign as a back-up and no way he signs for 7 million a year.

If that was out there he would have already have signed.
