I have that book. I read like half of it about ten years ago. Honestly, I don't remember much about it.

I have it. For Oriole fans, it's a good read, though if you've been listening to Palmer on the air for the last 20 years, you've heard most of the anectdotes from the book.

I really enjoyed it. Great "inside baseball'(pun intended) stuff. Palmer explains lots of Weaver's belief systems. I remember one example about throwing at hitters. Weaver HATED that. He NEVER wanted retribution. He always thought the the Orioles had more talent and to get into a beanball war was not in the Orioles best interests.

He also hated "fake hustle". He wanted guys to avoid getting injured by being careless and trying to sprint around and crash in to things and people.

No matter how harsh Weaver was, he basically was a ''players manager". If you built up winning equity he kept you around and kept playing you.

A great story about Weaver in a restaurant and his "apology" for swearing.

I've never read Palmer's book, but if you can find a copy of Earl's autobiography, "It's what you learn after you know it all that counts", I highly, highly recommend it. It's out of print, though, and used prices seem to be priced much higher than I remember.

It's like a summer action flick. Not an Academy Award winner but most people enjoy it. If you are an Orioles fan why not take a try?
