Is Dylan Bundy really one of the top five starters in the O's camp?
Jim Callis claims he is. But he has only pitched a few games at AA. Is he really ready to beat out one of Hammel, Chen, Gonzalez, Tillman or Britton?

He's the most talented, but in terms of getting major league hitters out right now, I seriously doubt he's in the top 5.

Also doubt he is ready to go 180 innings in one year.
My guess is they pace him through the first half. If he does well enough, he comes up in the 2nd half with a quick hook when his pitch count elevates.

Britton, Matusz and Jake better start pitching like they want to remain in Bmore as starters because chances are going to go to Bundy and Gausman soon.

The one time I saw Dylan pitch last year he got hit fairly hard by the Potomac Nationals. I don't think he's quite ready yet.

Someone on the radio said he's more ready that Strausburg was when he started the season in the minors. I didn't get the name of the scout/evaluator though....

The better question might be is Gausman?

Talent wise, he's certainly in the top 5. I watched him today in the intrasquad scrimmage and he was filthy. I just hope he can hold up in the long run, he might be 5'11"

I think he could survive in the bigs right now, but I also think that there are still things for him to learn and develop in the minors and I'd rather not use up service time while he's learning them. A half season in Bowie and Norfolk, IMO, would do him a lot of good. And, I think/hope Gausman is right behind him - not having seen him myself and based solely on others reports.
A young foursome of Bundy, Gausman, Tillman, and Britton would make for an exciting foundation for the next few years. And, I haven't given up on any of Matusz, Arrieta, Johnson or Wright, either. For that matter, even McFarland could make things interesting.

It is not quite so easy to pitch in the majors.
